Natural Ways to Control The Aging Process

kim_spa_new_jersey_coordinatorAging is a natural process, but it can also be affected by a variety of environmental influences, such as free-radical damage. Again, it is inevitable, but you can slow down the rate of aging by following some guidelines to maintain a more youthful appearance.  Specialists at Beaura Spa at Parker Center for Plastic Surgery, a Paramus New Jersey spa,  recommend diet, exercise, and other healthy habits to help you age gracefully.

When eating, you should choose nutrient-rich foods such as whole foods and organic fruits and vegetables, especially those in season. The vitamins and minerals in these foods will help keep your body and your skin healthy. You should also avoid processed foods. Excess sodium and partially-hydrogenated fats can negatively affect the body. Replace simple carbs like enriched flours and refined sugars with complex carbs. It takes longer for the body to break down complex carbs, using more energy. Hydration is also key. Water makes up most of the body, but it also helps the skin as an organ get rid of toxins.

Exercise regularly. Make sure to vary your routine with a combination of aerobic, resistance training, and stretching. By developing long lean muscle strength and flexibility, the body stays active and youthful. Exercise will also help you sleep better. Getting enough sleep is a big part of appearance and skin care. New Jersey locals should take advantage of the warm weather by going for a walk or run.

Protections and prevention are the best advice. Protect your skin against sun exposure. This is the number one contributor to premature aging. You should also be aware of your facial expressions. Repetitive motion can cause deep lines. Take time to relax, as stress often causes those frown lines.

Lastly, stay away from vices of alcohol, caffeine, and tobacco. Alcohol and caffeine dehydrate the body. Alcohol also interferes with metabolism, causing you to gain weight. Smoking creates wrinkles because of repetitive motions of taking drags off a cigarette. It can also affect skin tone, dental health, and is proven to cause long term health complications.

These are just some of the guidelines given by the Vita Medica Corporation, a company committed to the Science of Natural Health. We feature their supplements here at the Beaura Spa. For more information about how to reverse the signs of aging or about additional preventative measures for the best skin care, New Jersey residents can consult one of our experts here at the Spa.

VitaMedica Presents: Frequently Asked Questions & Clear Skin Formula Facts

kim_spa_new_jersey_coordinatorNew Jersey spa, Beaura Spa at Parker Center for Plastic Surgery, now offers VitaMedica Supplements for anti-aging and acne treatment.  New Jersey residents should contact the Beaura Spa  to schedule a free consultation.

1. Can diet affect acne and other skin problems? Yes, for certain types of acne and skin problems.  This question has garnered significant debate in the medical community.  However, it is widely believed that in addition to genetics, lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise and stress reduction have an impact on a person’s health status.  While hormones can directly impact acne, studies have shown that some acne patients have intestinal toxemia (toxins build up I the intestine as a result of poor nutrition).  Other studies have found that patients with psoriasis and eczema improve their condition with alpha-linolenic (Omega-3) essential fatty acid supplementation.  It simply makes sense that the quality of nutrients consumed will affect the quality of an individual’s skin.

2. How do prescription and over the counter (OTC) medications for acne differ from nutritional supplements? Natural medicines tend to be milder, safer and are far less likely to cause negative reactions.  Many topical treatments for the care of acne and inflammatory disorders of the skin are available.  While effective, these regimens contain products that generate activity primarily on the outer layer of the skin.  Although the topical approach represents the foundation of good skin care, it also makes sense to address what is going on internally.  That’s because what is  put inside the body is just as important as what is applied externally.  Other acne treatments, including prescription medications such as antibiotics and Accutane, can have powerful activity along with significant side effects.

3. Why is Vitamin A important for acne? Vitamin A plays a role in skin health because it is needed for the maintenance and repair of epithelial tissue, of which the skin and mucous membranes are composed.  Vitamin A stimulates growth of the base layer of the skin cells. It als helps cells to differentiate normally and gives them their structural integrity.  Vitamin A plays such an important role in dermal health that many topical acne medications are derivatives of this vitamin, including Tazorac, Differin, and Retin-A Micro.

4. Why is Zinc important for acne treatment? Zinc is a trace mineral that is essential for protein synthesis and collagen formation.  Zinc is also very important for the health of the skin.  Zinc is involved in the proper metabolism of testosterone, the principal hormone involved in the genesis of acne.  The mineral is also involved in vitamin A function, wound healing, immune system activity, inflammatory control and tissue regeneration.

5. What role do herbs play in the treatment of acne? The skin has a number of functions including temperature regulation, protection of the underlying tissues, fat storage and immunity.  Along with the kidneys, the skin also plays a role in eliminating toxins from the body.  In fact, the skin is often referred to as the “third kidney”.  The elimination of toxins through the skin can promote the development of acne.  A number of herbs including burdock, dandelion, yellow dock and Oregon grape, are known for their potent cleansing properties of the skin and blood.

6. What is the primary benefit of using Clear Skin Formula? Formulated with nutrients that promote skin health, reduce sebum production, enhance inflammatory control and have antiseptic properties, clear skin formula also provides hyaluronic acid for hydration and a range of antioxidants for protection from free-radical damage.

7. What makes VitaMedica’s Clear Skin Formula product unique? Designed to address each of the stages of acne, although an inflammatory skin condition, acne can strike at any age.  Its onset is most often related to a change in hormones.  Excess androgen production can cause the sebaceous glands to excrete more sebum.  Clear skin formula contains zinc to help regulate testosterone – the primary hormone involved with acne.  The supplement also contains vitamin A to promote normal epithelization of the skin cells and reduce sebum production.  Sebum productions in turn clogs the follicle and allows a bacterium called p.acnes to build.  The result is inflammation and either a white or black head forms microbial.  Selenium and bromelain are included in the formula to help with inflammation.  Hyaluronic acid provides bydration and structural integrity to the dermis.  In other instances, acne can be as a result of a toxic overload of the system.  Clear skin formula includes several herbs which help to detoxify and cleanse the blood and skin.

8. Will my skin get worse before it gets better and how long will it take before my skin starts to clear up? Acne, like other conditions of the skin ( e.g., psoriasis, eczema, rosacea)is a complicated health issue.  What works well for one person, may be only moderately effective for another.  When starting Clear Skin Formula, it is not uncommon for some people to experience a period of adjustment.  This means that it is possible to experience a “break-out” when starting the product.  If skin continues to break-out after taking the supplement for several weeks, then the product should be discontinued.  Skin cells naturally shed about once per month.  For this reason, Clear Skin Formula should be taken for at least one month and, in many cases, will need to be taken in excess of two months.

9. What else can I do to keep my skin clear? Healthy looking skin that is clear of acne is a reflection of a diet which is rich in fruits, vegetables and high-quality protein and fat sources.  For acne that is accompanied by inflammation, VitaMedica’s Bromelain with Quercetin supplement is ideal because it contains nutrients that have excellent anti-inflammatory properties.

10. If a person has acne and mature skin, should they take both the Clear Skin Formula and the Anti-Aging Formula? It is not recommended to take both supplements at the same time.  The combination would duplicate a certain number of nutrients (vitamin A, zinc, chromium).  To avoid duplication and ensure a safe level of vitamin A, Clear Skin Formula is indicated for patients with acne whereas the Anti-Aging Formula is indicated for patients with mature skin.

11. Who should not use Clear Skin Formula? Nutritional supplements have an excellent safety track record.  However, certain individuals should seek the advice of their doctor before beginning any nutritional supplement program particularly diabetics, pregnant or lactating women.  Clear Skin Formula contains vitamin A.  If you are presently taking Accutane for the treatment of acne, please refrain from taking Healthy Skin Formula until the end of the treatment cycle.  Please refer to the direction selection for more information on precautions and contraindications.

Common Skin Mistakes to Avoid

kim_spa_new_jersey_coordinatorWhen it comes to skin care, New Jersey residents should know some crucial tips on maintaining healthy skin.

In order for skin to maintain a more youthful appearance, refraining from the following would be advised:

  • Tanning Beds. The World Health Organization has classified tanning beds as a known carcinogen.  Exposure may accelerate wrinkles, skin cancer, as well as promote hyperpigmentation (dark spots).
  • Not using sunscreen daily.  You can avoid significant sun damage by using an SPF of at least 15 everyday.
  • Too much sun. It only takes 10 minutes to burn.  10 times the SPF factor in your sunscreen will give you the hours of protection you will need.  Ex. 10 min. x SPF 30= 300 minutes or 5 hours of protection
  • The wrong cleanser.  Foaming cleansers can dry out the skin while cleansers too rich can over stimulate sebaceous glands. Know your skin type and appropriate cleanser.
  • Not using a retinoid.  The best night cream to use to help prevent aging and to smooth out wrinkles you already have would be the Vitamin A family of retinoids such as Retin A and its derivatives.
  • Over exfoliation.  If your skin type is dry, too much exfoliation will strip the lipids from the skin.  Sensitive skin types can experience more inflammation.  A family of retinoids such as Retin A and its derivatives.
  • Using moisturizers on oily skin.  If your skin is oily, skip the moisture and just use sunscreen during the daytime.  Everyone’s skin feels tighter after cleansing.  It takes about 30 minutes for oil glands to replenish the skin.  You will know if you need added moisture after 45 minutes.

For Great Skin Care, New Jersey Patients Need Summer Skin Protection

    kim_spa_new_jersey_coordinator

PHYSICAL FUSION UV DEFENSE-SPF 50 & PHLORETIN CF-BROAD RANGE ANTIOXIDANT

    By Skinceuticals

Up to 90% of visible aging is caused by sun exposure. For skin care, New Jersey residents know that sunscreens are the skin’s first line of defense against photodamage, helping deflect and absorb harmful UV rays. Even broad spectrum sunscreens only block up to 55% of damaging free radicals caused by UV exposure.

For ultimate protection, you need to team up with a potent antioxidant as found in Phloretin CF and CE Ferulic. They provide equally powerful photoprotection, help reduce fine lines and wrinkles and restore radiance and provide more uniform skin tone.

Ultra sheer broad spectrum sunscreens as Physical Fusion UV defense and Sheer Physical UV defense provide UVA/UVB protection, contain 100% mineral filters and is a sheer fluid which is good on all skin types. For optimum skin care, New Jersey residents should contact the Beaura Spa at Parker Center.

For Skin Care, New Jersey Patients Can Learn About Melanoma Awareness: Prevention & Protection Inside Out

kim_spa_new_jersey_coordinatorHere at the Beaura Spa, we are concerned about skin care. New Jersey residents know it is essential to use a true broad-spectrum sunscreen daily to block damaging UV radiation from the OUTSIDE, but did you know that even the best broad-spectrum sunscreen can only block up to 55% of the damaging free radicals created by UV exposure?  Therefore, it is vital to use an effective topical antioxidant daily to neutralize the remaining UV-induced free radicals from the INSIDE.

Unlike antioxidants, which must get into the skin for maximum efficacy, safe and effective sunscreens do their work on top of the skin, not by penetrating the skin.  True broad-spectrum sunscreens are designed to work by blocking and absorbing damaging UVA & UVB rays on the outside of the skin.

Skin Care New Jersey Products ImageFor optimal skin care, daily use of both a topical antioxidant to protect from the inside and a broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect from the outside will:

    1. Help prevent the damage that leads to skin cancer
    2. Diminish age spots and other forms of hyper-pigmentation
    3. Prevent and reduce fine lines and wrinkles
    4. Reduce skin laxity
    5. Restore radiance and greatly improve the overall health of your skin

In an effort to offer the best protection for skin care, New Jersey patients can take advantage of our special offer.  Now through the end of August (or while supplies last) when you purchase Skinceuticals award winning essential antioxidants for the inside (the CE Ferulic/B-5Gel combo or the Phloretin/B5 Gel combo) at the manufacturers discount,  Beaura Spa will deduct 10% off any of Skinceuticals broad spectrum sunscreens.

The staff at the Parker Center and Beaura Spa wish you all a healthy summer!

Need Acne Treatment? New Jersey Beaura Spa has all you need to know about Retin A.

kim_spa_new_jersey_coordinatorTretinoin or sometimes better known as Retin A is a derivative of Vitamin A and is the acne treatment choice for comedonal acne or whiteheads and blackheads.  It works by increasing skin cell turnover promoting the extrusion of the plugged material in the follicle.  It also prevents the formation of new comedones.  Tretinoin is the ONLY topical medication that has been proven to improve wrinkles.

The effects of increased cell turnover can be very irritating and flaking.  For this reason, many people stop using Retin-A after a couple of days to weeks, believing that it didn’t work.  It is important to realize that Retin-A is very effective for whiteheads and blackheads but it may take 6-9 weeks to see a noticeable difference.  It takes at least 6 months to see a noticeable difference in wrinkles.  The best benefit is seen if Retin-A is used for at least a year.

Below are just a few guidelines that may make it easier to take this great medicine:

    • Apply Retin-A in a thin layer at night. A small amount goes a long way
    • In the morning, wash your face with a mild facial scrub or rough wash cloth. This will help reduce the noticeable flaking
    • After washing, apply a good water-based moisturizer. The moisturizer will make the drying effect of the medicine more tolerable
    • Apply sunscreen anytime you are exposed to the sun even for a short amount of time. Tretinoin makes you more susceptible to sunburn
    • When first using Retin-A, apply every other night or every 3rd night. The flaking and irritation side effects are usually the worst in the first 2 weeks. As you skin adjusts, you can apply more frequently
    • If you notice an increase in the irritation or flaking, it’s ok to take a break for a couple of days
    • Don’t stop using completely without consulting your skincare provider

The Beaura Spa at the Parker Center offers full service acne treatment New Jersey residents will enjoy in comforting atmosphere. Experience the latest trends in skin care and massage therapy combined with products to enhance your appearance. Beaura Spa can help you fight the creeping signs of aging.

kim_spa_new_jersey_coordinatorThere are solutions to the ever growing pace at which our skin shows signs of aging.  If we are cognizant of some tell-tale signs, we can be ready to step into action to reverse or slow down the aging process.  Of course, sound cleansing routines should begin early in our lives to ward off the “creeping signs” of aging.  In the event you are beginning to notice these changes regardless of how subtle, the following knowledge should be beneficial:

    • DULL COMPLEXTION:  Regular cleansing and exfoliating will reduce the lack luster appearance of a dull complextion.  When dead skin cells are allowed to remain, they can block the passage of any serums and/or moisturizing products that you may be using. Also, “free radicals” in the environment can react with dirt and oil to damage skin over time.

SOLUTION: We recommend visiting Beaura Spa for periodic exfoliating treatments such as microdermabrasion or micropeel followed by an infusion of hydrating nutrients and vitamins.  This will help to revamp the luster that time and harsh weather has produced. Our full line of Skinceutical and Obagi skincare home products sold at the Paramus New Jersey Spa are also highly recommended.

    • DARK SPOTS/HYPERPIGMENTATION:  The sun’s damaging UV rays over time produce skin that is every bit as aging as wrinkles.  UV rays stimulate the body’s melanin to produce dark pigment as protection. The result is unfortunately, discoloration which is photo-damage.

SOLUTION: Choosing a sunscreen protection from UVA/UVB damaging rays and using it daily will protect from photo damage.  Even if you believe the damage was done long before, the sun has a cumulative effect on our skin. We recommend Skinceutical Sheer Physical defense SPF 50 or Obagi Sun Shield SPF 50 for maximum protection.  Beaura Spa’s  Photo-rejuvinating laser facial or Obagi skincare home products followed by an Obagi “Blue” peel will also help correct the damage.

    • DRYNESS/DEHYDRATION: Cold air and arid indoor conditions breakdown the skins protective barrier. Skin appears blotchy, flaky, “older” looking

SOLUTION: Hydration, hydration, hydration!  Beaura Spa sells various skincare moisturizers and serums to help advance your skin to a luminous glow. In addition, modern science has afforded us with “Profusion” an infusing delivery method obtained at our Paramus New Jersey Spa.   We can now infuse the skin with nutrients and peptides where results are immediate!

    • PUFFY EYES/UNDER EYE BAGS: Those annoying dark circles and dreaded puffiness may be a heriditary issue or attributed to rapid weight loss, even yo-yo dieting.

SOLUTION:   Getting more sleep and possibly changing your position from stomach or side to sleeping on your back may help drain fluid that can accumulate around the eye area. Of course every women should be using an eye cream specific to their needs. Beaura Spa suggests A.G.E. eye cream by Skinceuticals or Elastaderm by Obagi Medical products for rapid relief of symptoms.

Benefits of Massage At New Jersey Spa Extend to TMJ

Patty Bookstaver ikim_spa_new_jersey_coordinators a massage therapist at the Beaura Spa at the Parker Center with over 17 years experience. She is certified in many different modalities of massage and brings the right combinations of massage treatments to help her clients.

The National Institute of Health estimates that over 10 million American suffer with TMJ or some chronic jaw pain. Many of these TMJ sufferers find relief in therapeutic massage. Massage is a non-invasive, drug-free method of relaxing the pressure points around the jaw, and working the muscles in the area to relieve the tension.

TMJ or temporomandibular joint disorder covers an array of joint disorders all collectively referred to as TMJ. TMJ is characterized by a dull, transient ache in jaw joint and surrounding areas. The pain can extend to the ear, present as a headache or neck, shoulder or back pain.

“Often a client will come in for a massage at our New Jersey Spa and mention they have a headache from their TMJ. I’ll use some of the time to work on the pressure points in the head, neck and jaw to help relieve that tension,” says Patty

TMJ can be caused by a number of factors including injury, arthritis, sinus infections, teeth grinding and clenching and stress. Massage is ideal for relaxation and stress relief. By working on key areas affected by the TMJ, massage can release trigger points and ease muscle tension, giving clients much needed relief. parker_massage2

“I work on the outside of the mouth, right underneath the jawbone. I will ask a client to relax their mouth so it falls open, then I work right on the trigger point on the joint just below the ear,” explained Patty.

Patty has found that using the combination of releasing the trigger points around the jaw and back of the head along with tissue massage of the muscles in the area will generally bring relief to TMJ sufferers. New Jersey Spa Massage in and of itself brings deep relaxation and releases the stress of muscles.

“I have helped many clients who have experienced TMJ. The combination of working trigger points and massaging the muscles along with practicing jaw relaxation exercises really helps give them relief. I also tell them don’t chew gum and try to not to clench,” said Patty.

Paramus, NJ Spa – Beaura Spa’s Five Tips on Caring for your Skin this Winter

kim_spa_new_jersey_coordinatorAt our Paramus, NJ spa, we understand the challenges that most of us have when exposed to the seasonal changes in weather.  The winter months can be especially difficult.  In an effort to keep our patients prepared and informed, we have found the following tips extremely useful.

    1.   HYDRATION: The winter months can tend to leave your skin dehydrated as cold dry air depletes your skin of moisture.  Consulting with our aesthetic providers will help guide you in upgrading your moisturizer to a more emollient formulation or enhancing your current moisturizer with a hydrating serum.

    2.   EXFOLIATION: It is very important to exfoliate your skin during the winter months.  When ridding the skin of dead, dry cells it appears more radiant.  Your products will penetrate more thoroughly creating better performance. Makeup application goes on evenly and looks flawless.  At our Paramus, NJ spa, trained aestheticians can suggest the best method of exfoliation for you from our array of skin services.

    3.   SUN PROTECTION: UV rays are present all year round, not just the spring and summer months!  Do not stop using your sunscreen! Very Important!

    4.   NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS: Consider nutritional dietary supplements to improve your skin’s water retention capacity.  Although benefits of Omega-3 oils have been much more publicized, the health benefits of Omega-6 oils are less well known.  Omega-6 oils found in high concentration in flaxseed oil and borage oil may provide significant benefit to your skin and help support your body’s natural moisture factor.

    5.   HUMIDIFICATION: You may not be able to change the weather conditions outside, but you can alter the inside environment with a humidifier.  Most indoor heating uses dry air. Humidifiers are an effective and inexpensive way of consistently enhancing the moisture content of the air throughout your home and office.

For a consultation or appointment at our Paramus, NJ spa, please call (201) 967-1756 or contact us on our website. We eagerly await the opportunity to share with you our cutting edge, non invasive skin care approaches, including Microdermabrasion, Micropeel, Isolaz laser facials,  hydrating Profusion processes to name a few, as well as Medical Spa grade homecare products.

As always, thank you for choosing Beaura Spa at Parker Center.

The Beaura Spa – Massage has benefits beyond immediate glow

kim_spa_new_jersey_coordinatorA recent study reported in The New York Times and conducted at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center by a division of the National Institute of Health reports that, “A single session of massage caused biological changes.”

These biological changes include a noted decrease in the stress hormone, cortisol and an increase in white blood cells, essential to our immune system and an increase in oxytocin, a hormone associated with contentment.

Stress related illnesses have been reported as the culprit in anywhere from two thirds to 90% of all family doctor visits. Stress can leave people more vulnerable to anxiety, depression and even illness.

Patty, our New Jersey massage therapist, has over 20 years experience and has helped clients with everything from post-surgical healing, sports overexertion, chronic pain, stress relief and discomforts of pregnancy.

“There are no downsides to massage. People often come to a spa for the visual, to look better. While massage is not primarily visual, but it helps with skin tone, releases toxins from your muscles, increase flexibility and gives you a rush of endorphins which makes you feel wonderful,” says Patty

The physiological and psychological effects of massage can be dramatic. The Beaura Spa offers many different types of massage including: Swedish massage, deep-tissue massage, reflexology, shiatsu, sports, pre-natal & post-partum.

Kim, our spa manager, speaks to clients about what they’re experiencing and often makes recommendations for particular services. She hears our client’s reactions everyday about their treatment and how wonderful they feel after a massage session.

“Some people have an initial fear of massage, especially if they’re experiencing pain. But afterwards they feel so wonderful, they come to understand the benefits,” said Kim.

Depression is a wide ranging illness and most depression is not considered “clinical.” Many people are affected with milder forms of depression based on seasonality, economic woes and family pressures. Because massage has been show to release the hormones that increase contentment, it can elevate mood.

Women often fall prey to illness this time of year as the bulk of the holiday planning, shopping and traveling fall on their shoulders. Take care of yourself with therapeutic massage, so you can take care of others.

“Just the idea of the holiday season causes stress. We want to help people take care of themselves this year,” says Kim.

Science has proven what we at The Beaura Spa have known all along. Our New Jersey day spa clients improve their health and emotional well being everyday through massage therapy.

To schedule a New Jersey massage, facial or any one of our other spa services today, call The Beaura Spa at The Parker Center at (201) 967-1756 or visit http://www.parkercenterspa.net/.

New Jersey Medical Spa News: The Beaura Spa in New Jersey Offers Massage Therapy for Better Health

A massage therapist for 20 years, Patty continues to add to her repertoire at the Beaura Spa in New Jersey.

For first-timers to NJ massage therapy, she recommends starting out with the Swedish technique. It is a very light, relaxing all over body technique as an introduction to treatment. Shiatsu is another light touch therapy that is combined with the Swedish for the Beaura Spa’s signature massage. Using the fingertips, pressure is applied along the meridians of the body, which are on either side of the spine. kim_spa_new_jersey_coordinator

Patty’s therapeutic massage is deeper and she combines it with trigger point therapy. By applying pressure to the affected trigger points, she releases the tension and toxins built up in that specific area. It is so effective, she says, “I had one client cancel a carpal tunnel surgery after I treated her with trigger point therapy.”

Patty also offers reflexology New Jersey which is an ancient therapy with the philosophies of Eastern medicine behind it. “I can correct any problem in the body through the feet, hands and face.” Because these areas are connected with the meridians running throughout the body, she can access and area that otherwise couldn’t be treated. “If a client is in so much neck pain that I can’t touch it, I can find that area on the foot and work out the issue.” She adds, “It is really an amazing therapy. I watched a client’s neck spasm as I was working that specific area of the foot. It was amazing!”

For pregnant women, Patty strongly recommends having a pre-natal massage every other week after the first trimester. It greatly relieves the pressure on the back as the baby grows and can help make the labor pains more bearable. Patty cautions, “Make sure the therapist is trained in pre-natal technique. There are certain areas that must not be touched and only someone with the proper training should perform the therapy.”

Athletes come in for a sports massage. As a preventative treatment, they come in before the activity to enhance their performance. After the activity, they come in for therapeutic treatment to relax the fatigued muscles and stave off injury. parker_massage

Patty also works with Parker Center cosmetic surgery patients as a part of their Rapid Recovery Program. By performing a lymphatic massage NJ ten days post-op, circulation of the fluid is improved so there is no pooling of fluid and excessive swelling. This technique targets the lymphatics of the body to keep the fluid moving and it also moves out the toxins. Surgical recovery is accelerated as a result.

The ancient art of Reiki is also part of Patty’s repertoire. Though it is not massage, it is very relaxing and therapeutic. Using guided meditation, Patty channels her energy into the client by placing one hand on the head and the other over the heart. Her energy helps them find a mind/body balance and release the trapped negativity.

Massage therapy NJ shouldn’t be viewed as just a luxury. Yes, it is very relaxing, but it also performs a very important service to the body by increasing blood and oxygen flow and releasing the congestive toxins in the body. The practice is for everyone. “Babies as young as 6 months old can get a massage to help with issues like colic and senior clients greatly benefit from the improved blood flow,” says Patty. “It’s not the age, but the intensity and amount of time spent in therapy that varies.”

For more information on all the techniques Patty uses or to schedule a consultation, call (201) 967-1756. Additional information can be found at www.parkercenter.net.

New Jersey Skin Care News: The Beaura Spa Recommends Reversing the Summer Fun Sun Damage with Obagi Products

Fall is in the air and the glowing tans are fading, leaving behind new dark spots, lines and wrinkles. Paramus plastic surgeon, Dr. Paul M. Parker, knows that the Obagi Nu-Derm skin care line can reduce the effects of a summer spent in the sun as well as the build-up of years of sun damage because he uses these products himself. kim_spa_new_jersey_coordinator

The system is a process. Aestheticians at the medical spa in New Jersey instruct their clients in the use of an at home kit. The kit includes a cleanser, toner, bleaching agent, exfoliating agent and Retin-A, used in conjunction with a blender product which facilitates the penetration of Retin-A more deeply into the skin.  For more aggressive treatment, the Obagi Blue Peel in NJ, a trichloroacetic acid peel applied in layers, can be used. This peel penetrates into the dermis layer of the skin, smoothing fine lines and wrinkles.

Dr. Parker says, “Having patients on the Obagi products for several weeks before the peel prepares the skin and facilitates deeper penetration of the peel for maximum corrective effects.” He adds that, “I’ve been using these products myself for over 5 years because most of my recreation activities are outdoors. I wear sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat, but the sun can still penetrate the skin. These products help reverse the sun damage that gets through. They not only correct sun damage, but make the skin look healthier and act to prevent skin cancer.”

The system works progressively over several months. Results are visible within the first few weeks. With consistent use, the Obagi products continue to brighten and tighten, leaving behind healthy looking skin. It works because it changes the formation of new cells so that the skin looks brighter and healthier.

With all the other products available to treat the skin, why does Dr. Parker personally use and recommend the Obagi system as part of his Bergen County skin care line at the Beaura Spa?  “Dr. Obagi is an excellent clinical dermatologist and he has really studied the science of the skin.” He adds, “Over the years, he has put together a group of scientifically developed products which work to bring about healthy skin carefully observing these effects in his own patients.” paramus_plastic_surgeon

The Obagi products are of prescription strength and their use can be tailored to fit all skin care needs. The Obagi Blue Peel in NJ, because of its deeper penetration, is used to treat deeper lines and wrinkles caused by more severe sun damage.

One to four layers of the TCA blue peel are used in performing the peel. A blue dye allows the aestheticians to monitor the depth of penetration and adjust the layers as needed. “Afterwards, it’s like having a sunburn and the skin peels over the next several days. Within a week, patients can be out and about, getting back to normal activities,” says Dr. Parker.

New Jersey Skin Care News: The Science of Skin Care can be found at the Beaura Spa

The skin care industry has evolved and employs real science in the creation of new products and equipment.New Jersey skin care patients have the benefit of the latest technology and the most advanced products on the market to address specific skin care issues at the Beaura Spa.  kim_spa_new_jersey_coordinator

Georgiana Liquori, master aesthetician at the Beaura Spa, says, “We feel confident here with our treatments because we know we have the best the industry has to offer.” Clients feel this surety and come in knowing that their procedure is going to involve the best method of treatment.

Georgiana notes that over the last twenty years of her involvement in the beauty industry, many changes have occurred. For topical products, she says that “chirally correct technology is really where it’s at when it comes to effective skin care.” This is science that has been employed in pharmaceuticals for years and now, a handful of skin care lines use this science to ensure optimal results. Another scientific advancement includes the bottling and air tight packaging of these products which means synthetic preservatives are no longer necessary.

Another scientific advancement for New Jersey skin care is the development of laser technology that treats acne and other skin issues non-invasively. The most recent lasers on the market are more precise and painless unlike the older generation of lasers.

    laser_skin_treatments_in_new_jersey

Customization of treatment is also a beneficial advancement in skin care. The products available at the Beaura Spa are designed so that Georgiana and the other aestheticians can pick and choose from products to get just the right formula for each patient. “The industry recognizes that it is not a one-size fits all world when it comes to skin. Products are issue specific- addressing acne, hyper-pigmentation, rosacea and even skin sensitivity,” says Georgiana. “This makes our job so much easier.

“Mineral make-up is the finishing touch on the science of skin care,” says Georgiana. This product is light, pure and natural and the healthiest cover-up there is for the skin. At every level- procedure technology, topical, customization and make-up- the Beaura Spa has the state-of-the-art tools to treat every client.

At the medical spa, New Jersey clients have the best there is to offer at the Beaura Spa. “We are pioneering, at the forefront of the future of aesthetics in anti-aging and anti-acne management.”

NJ Massage Therapy News: The Beaura Spa Aids Parker Center Patients in Recovery with Massage

Licensed massage therapist, Patty, helps speed the recovery of cosmetic surgery patients though lymphatic drainage massages (MLD). Having practiced NJ massage therapy for nearly 20 years, Patty says, “I love…love what I do!” Because the Beaura Spa in New Jersey is part of the Parker Center family, Dr. Parker actually prescribes three MLD sessions for each of his patients.  kim_spa_new_jersey_coordinator

“Lymphatic drainage massage is specifically designed to remove extra fluid form the tissue. After surgery or a trauma, the fluid pools at the site. With the massage, I keep the fluid moving on out of the body,” says Patty. Preventing the accumulation of fluid reduces swelling and speeds the recovery process.

About 10 days after the cosmetic procedure, patients come in to see Patty for their session. “It’s not like a normal massage. It’s geared toward the type of surgery and where the fluid needs to drain from,” says Patty.

There are three lymph node locations targeted in this procedure- the pectoral nodes under the armpit, behind the knees and in the groin area. So, for breast augmentation Patty would focus on the pectoral nodes because they are closest to the surgical site. While patients may be wary of a massage after surgery it actually uses a very light touch. Patty likens it to the amount of pressure you would feel from a nickel resting on the skin.

The lymphatic massage NJ is not a luxury, even though the feeling is relaxed and tranquil. It is a very important component of the Rapid Recovery Program at the Parker Center. It reduces swelling by moving the fluid and toxins out. Ultimately, it promotes an easier and faster recovery.  parker_massage2

It isn’t just for people who’ve had surgery or experienced some kind of trauma. In fact, Patty recommends that everyone get a lymphatic massage NJ periodically. “The healthy flow of the lymphatic fluid that is created with the technique makes for a healthier body,” she says. The body catches and holds toxins from the environment and diet. This massage releases the trapped toxins in the tissue and the lymph system moves them out.

Another all around good benefit of this healing procedure is that even though the touch is so gently, it improves blood circulation which means that oxygen is moving efficiently throughout the body.

For more information on massage therapy NJ, visit the www.parkercenter.net or call (201) 967-1756 for a consultation with Patty.

Beaura Spa Skincare News: Skin Rejuvenation New Jersey Offers Profusion to Combat Up-Coming Winter Dryness

There’s no stopping it… school and football season are starting which means summer is coming to an end. The leaves will soon be changing and there will be a chill in the air. The Beura Spa wants our clients to be proactive against dull dry skin this winter by starting now with Profusion, the latest addition to the Isolaze system. kim_spa_new_jersey_coordinator

Even in humid climates, winter time is drying to the skin which makes fine lines and wrinkles even more pronounced. Because of this, pursuing facial rejuvenation New Jersey is essential to keeping the face hydrated and the wrinkles and flakey skin at bay. Kim Ashton, spa coordinator and licensed aesthetician, says, “You immediately feel a plumping of the skin after one treatment so you know it is working.”

How this technology works for hydration and wrinkle removal NJ is that the vacuum action of the Isolaze system causes a separation of the stratum corneum skin cells. This separation offers a pathway for the 11 nutrient rich ingredients to be readily absorbed into the skin.

The Profusion tip attached to the Isolaze is loaded with ingredients like copper peptides, hyaluronic acid, almond and sesame oil, Omega acids and more. Kim says, “Just one treatment is like getting a mega-dose of the products you would use night after night, except you get results immediately instead of months later.” laser_skin_treatments_in_new_jersey

The Beaura Spa is the first to offer this innovative skin care New Jersey procedure because it is dedicated to offering the best results to their clients. This Bergen County spa started using the Isolaze system as soon as it came out two years ago and when the Profusion attachment for anti-aging and hydration, it quickly became a part of the menu.

The products and procedure are gentle enough to use on all skin types, so it is especially good for older skin that really needs a boost of hydration. But, for anyone who is exposed to the cold and wind this winter, getting started with Profusion now gets the skin in shape to handle the elements. Kim starts out with a package of 4 for first time clients and then once a month or as needed for maintenance to keep the skin hydrated.

For more information on Profusion or other laser treatments New Jersey, call the Beaura Spa for a consultation at (201) 967-1756. More information can also be found at www.parkercenter.net and click on the Beaura Spa link.
