When Does Financing Your Plastic Surgery Make Sense?

Whether it’s breast augmentation or face lifts, liposuction or tummy tucks, laser hair removal or Botox®, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) reports that the number of people seeking plastic surgery has risen dramatically recently.

There was a time when plastic surgery, which often is not covered by health insurance, was prohibitive to all but the very wealthy. Although cosmetic and reconstructive surgical procedures still remain pricey, there are an increasing number of people from various socio-economic classes finding ways to take advantage of life-enhancing procedures. According to the ASPS, the U.S. average plastic surgeon fees for the following procedures in 2010 were as follows:

Botox $375
Breast Augmentation $3,351
Breast Lift $4,207
Cellulite treatment $230
Face Lift $6,231
Eyelid Lift $2,828
Laser Hair Removal $383
Laser Vein Removal $404
Liposuction $2,884
Tummy Tuck $5,130

In addition to the surgeon’s fees, a patient should expect to pay fees for the surgical facility, anesthesia, pre or post-surgery medical tests, prescriptions, and post surgery garments. Obviously, the total cost for even one procedure can quickly total thousands. Why, then, have the number of surgeries performed each year continued to rise steadily?

In part, the increase in plastic surgery is due to advances in technology that make plastic surgery easier to perform, less invasive in several procedures, safer on many levels, and more predictable or reliable as far as expected results. These advances have often made patient recovery time shorter and the potential side effects less risky.

Technological advances are not limited to procedures available to plastic surgeons and their teams, but the number of databases and services available through the internet has made finding a plastic surgeon with solid credentials and certification, as well as high scores from patients, much easier. An individual can select his or her specialist with a great deal of confidence.

In addition, as society has become more aware of the potential of enhancing not only our physical appearance, but also, as in the case of eliminating painful varicose veins, of furthering our ability to function most effectively, financial institutions have begun to recognize the demand for financing options for both cosmetic and reconstructive surgeries not otherwise covered by insurance.

It is possible to approach plastic surgery the old-fashioned way and save until one has the cash to cover all costs involved. It is also plausible that certain individuals with excellent credit might have zero precent credit cards with a high enough credit limit to allow them to charge such a procedure. If one is really fortunate, she might be able to apply for a new card with an introductory zero percent for several months or even a year that would allow her to charge most of the cost of the procedure at no interest. However, these options have their limitations.

Saving cash takes both an immense amount of time and an immense amount of discipline. Many surgical procedures would cost more than the average credit limit on a standard card, and once an introductory zero percent period is expired, interest rates on a standard credit card can be exorbitant, especially if a high balance remains.

The relatively new creation of credit accounts specifically for financing medical procedures has made surgical options once available only to the rich and famous now within reach of the average American. Several options exist to make the possibility of plastic surgery at lot more achievable in a shorter time frame. Included in this list are CareCredit® through GE Money Bank®, ChaseHealthAdvance?, and MedChoice™ through World Financial Network National Bank. Each of these programs offers qualified applicants a high credit limit, often up to $25,000, much higher than the limit on an average credit card.

The programs are also designed with flexible payment plans, including extended payment periods much like payment schedules for financing an automobile. Although most medical plans boast low interest rates (as compared to a standard credit card), shop for a medical plan like ChaseHealthAdvantage, that offers no interest for up to 24 months. However, be aware that if the balance is not paid in full within the time period, many of these plans will calculate the interest from the inception of the loan and add that to the amount you owe.

If you are fortunate enough to work for a company with a flexible spending benefit, it is one of the best ways to take advantage of the specially designed financing programs for medical procedures as it allows you to withhold monies for medical expenses prior to taxes. Of course, this requires a little planning ahead.

Research the total costs for the procedure you need before the beginning of your company’s fiscal year. Divide the cost over the number of months your medical financing plan has offered to loan you money interest free. Fill out the appropriate flex spending forms to request that your company set aside the monthly amount you will be paying for your plastic surgery, and you’ve enhanced your life with a surgery you’ve been wanting while saving money Uncle Sam would have collected on possibly several thousand dollars. And that’s thinking in league with the rich and famous!

Air Bags and Other Post-Surgery Concerns

When you first get your long-awaited breast augmentation surgery, you immediately have a lot of extraneous concerns surrounding the care and recovery of your new breasts. Suddenly, simple things like getting comfortable while sleeping, long distance airline travel and even airbag deployment in vehicles can be a major crisis.

Breast augmentation recovery is not generally something to be overly concerned with. When you first start to meet with your surgeon regarding the procedure, you will be able to consult with him or her about all of your concerns. Talking about the recovery process is the best way to educate yourself.

Ideally, your tits won't blow up like this unfortunate soul.

During your consultation appointments prior to the operation, be sure to ask as many questions about your recovery and your new breasts. Your doctor will tell you there are no dumb questions and that every question is valid. In fact, your surgeon will probably tell you that every woman has concerns similar to yours.

While you are consulting about the size and shape you want your new breasts to be, you’ll also learn about the surgery process. Some doctors have different procedures they follow when augmenting breasts or adding implants. Talk to your doctor about the procedure he or she follows just so you better understand where the incisions, sutures and scars will be.

You will also want to learn how you will feel following the operation. Your doctor will be willing to share with you as much as you are willing to learn. Most likely, the staff will also send you home with some reading material just to refresh your memory.

Recoveries can vary, as you will learn from you surgeon, and your recovery will depend a lot on your body type, overall health and the implants you receive. The best way to make your recovery go smoothly is to be as healthy as possible going into the surgery, get plenty of rest before and after the procedure and follow your surgeon’s orders.

Even people with the best intentions can have a less than desirable recovery. Some of the frequently asked questions of ways to monitor and maintain a healthy recovery are common across the board.

For example, many women are concerned about the potential negative repercussions that air bags could have on new or recent implants. Although this is not a ridiculous concern, most surgeons will tell you that a patient need not worry about air bags. First of all, you should not be driving during the first week following your surgery. And, if for some reason you are forced to drive, it is unlikely that you will be in an accident that deploys your vehicle’s airbags.

It should be noted that being in a car accident that forces the air bags to deploy could indeed damage your breast implants. It very rarely happens. When it does happen, however, that a woman with implants is in a high impact collision, the implants have been punctured resulting in a small leak. This is nothing out of the ordinary that your surgeon can’t fix. It is important to recognize the airbags as a life saving device not as an implant-damaging device.

Similar questions arise about airplane travel following breast augmentation surgery. While the questions is easily answered by reminding patients that they should be resting for at least a week following the surgery, some patients need extra encouragement to stay on the ground.

Airplane travel at high altitudes does not cause your breasts to rupture. There is no actual evidence of this happening with most of the stories circulating as rumors. Again, you could have problems flying if you just got surgery though. The sutures and other swelling could become painful and inflamed if you choose to fly after surgery.

Finally, your surgeon will probably share with you the proper way to sleep during your first several days following surgery. Although you can’t flatten or rupture your implants by accidentally rolling over on them, you could cause damage to your healing sutures. It is important to follow your doctor’s orders and sleep in the way they recommend.

If your suture becomes infected or inflamed, it could result in unnatural scarring or worse: hospitalization. You want to be sure that the skin around the incision area be given the proper chance to heal. That means staying hydrated and following the doctor’s orders.

Resting as mentioned earlier is an often-overlooked part of recovery. Many women don’t realize that your doctor isn’t kidding when he or she said that rest is important. Lying down is an important way to keep the proper blood flow to the new tissues. Reaching, bending down, and walking could all cause improper blood flow that could lead to swelling or infection.

If you are concerned about air bags, airline travel, sleeping positions or anything else as it relates to your healing breast augmentation surgery, don’t hesitate to talk with your surgeon.

The Worst Places to Show Off Your Breast Augmentation

Look at you! Instead of the flat-chested and mousy nobody of yesterday, a new breast augmentation has created a sultry and curvaceous sexpot. A woman who could formerly walk down the streets with her AA bra sized bosoms without even being noticed is now hearing male whistles, cat calls and even seeing the heads of men jerk around their neck to take a closer look. All this attention may make a girl feel so confident that she goes out and buys a new wardrobe of clingy tops and plunging necklines. But not so fast; while these beautiful boobies are wonderful additions to one’s arsenal of sex appeal tools, it’s not always appropriate to display them in certain situations. Choosing one’s audience is a new skill that a busty bombshell must now cultivate. Where are the absolute worst places to show off your ample breasts? Read on to learn.

Family Reunion

Okay, your family members love you for who you are, no matter what. Right? But if all your aunts, female cousins, mom, sisters and grannies are flat-chested, seeing you strutting your bosoms in push up bras and see-through blouses, you will likely get an unpleasant reaction from the crowd. They may be jealous or appalled, but it’s likely that most of your DNA relatives won’t be impressed. Okay, there may be one or two who may sidle up to you and ask about the procedure because they too want to amp up their sex appeal. But for the most part, showcasing your boobs may cast you as the big busted black sheep of the group. Dress demurely for family reunions.

You might think your new implants are hot, but your Grand Maw is nothing short of pissed. Put those things away.

PTA Meeting

PTA meetings can be constructive gatherings of parents and teachers wanting to further children’s education or buy materials for the school. But more often than not, they’re also a gathering of moms who are gossipy biddies with a few dads thrown into the mix. Chances are that many of those mommies aren’t head-turners and your dressing as a vamp will cause them to hate you because you so outshine them and because the sprinkling of daddies in the group won’t be able to take their eyes of your cleavage. Wear modest clothing when heading a PTA committee to buy playground equipment. Save your “bad girl” sheer blouses for another night.

No one here is dressed to impressed, or even attract attention. Single or not, don't go to a PTA meeting seeking attention.

Visiting Your Nephew in Prison

You always loved that nephew, the sensitive, tortured-artist type. In high school, he began to run around with the wrong crowd and got mixed up with drugs. Next thing you and your sis knew, he had stolen a car and landed himself behind bars. He has since found religion and will be a better man once he gets out in ten to twenty. In the mean time, you want to support him and let him know that he’s unconditionally loved so you visit him in the slammer every Sunday. Think that’s an appropriate place to wear that tight velvet top with the spaghetti straps? Uh, nope. Maybe your nephew will still view you as his auntie but the rest of the guys behind bars who haven’t seen or touched female flesh in some time will likely go through the roof. Testosterone unreleased and the large breasts of a woman could constitute a chemical reaction resulting in an explosive prison revolt. Better to bind those boobies and wear a jacket, too.

"Aunt B, please don't get Bubba hot and bothered!" - Your Nephew

At Your Bankruptcy Hearing

You lost your job and your house went into foreclosure. Before being laid off from your old company, you decided to take that severance check and transform your pancake breasts into a couple of mounds that resemble the curvature of ripe melons. Good for you! But if you’ve decided to wipe your financial slate clean by declaring bankruptcy as a flat chested and forlorn woman, best not to plead your sad case with the judge while sporting a couple of recently purchased double DD’s. The stodgy legal decision-maker sitting behind the bench might not think too highly of your paying for your new breasts as one last swipe of the plastic that you’ll now charge off. Hide those ample girlies beneath duct tape and a blazer.

Other than the tall guy in the back with the smirk on his face, these people don't look impressed by your breast implants.

When a flat-chested woman finally goes under the scalpel to undergo breast augmentation, she may be dying to show her full breasts off. There are some fantastic places to do just that such as on the beach in a bikini top, in the bedroom under a silk chemise or naked, on the dance floor wearing a tight sequined top and in an array of other places. But if a girl still wants to be accepted by her female family members and the PTA officers and membership, she will dress discreetly at these events. If she wants to create an image of being a responsible person who just had some bad financial breaks during her bankruptcy hearing, she’ll tone down her sexy look, as well. And for the sake of her nephew and all those frustrated guys in prison, she’d best put away her vixen look for another time. Breast augmentation results can be something to be quite proud of as long as a woman is sensitive to situations that aren’t appropriate for showing off her new additions.

Will My Breasts Explode If I Go Scuba Diving?

Women who have had breast augmentation are often a bit worried about the devices rupturing from various activities. This is especially true in cases where the implants are relatively new. It takes a bit of time to get used to having a busty figure when one is used to be flat-chested. Some plastic surgeons even warn their patients to watch out for doorways and doors as the new dimensions might get slammed simply because the woman isn’t used to having those protrusions coming out from her chest. Scuba diving is one activity that females especially worry about. If a woman decides to go on a vacation to a prime coastal region and wants to do a bit of diving, she may be hesitant because she’s worried about her implants rupturing. That would certainly put a damper on a beachfront getaway!
Scuba diving and snorkeling are two completely different activities. In order to be a diver, an individual has to go through a training and certification process. Special suits and masks must be worn in order to keep the body safe from pressure beneath the ocean surface.

It's doubtful that this will happen to you while scuba diving.

Examples of equipment needed to do a full scale dive include mask, snorkel, wet suit, webbed fins, air tanks, dive boots, regulator, gauge to monitor pressure, compensator for buoyancy, and various computerized devices. All of these items will keep a person safe and sound while diving deep, as long as they’ve been properly trained and dive with another person. To snorkel, a person just needs a swimsuit and a mask and snorkel. Snorkelers don’t submerge very deep; they just swim around in shallow areas in order to view the gorgeous sea life that’s not visible to those who stay on the shore.

There are some gorgeous spots around the world to dive including off the coasts of North America, Costa Rica, Hawaii and the Bahamas. There are even some wedding packages where the entire ceremony is performed underwater. Imagine those wedding photos! No matter where the ocean adventure takes place, a woman with a curvy figure comprised of large breasts will look smashing in a swimsuit or wetsuit. Smashing, that is, in terms of beauty, not exploding saline or silicone implants. So, will they burst due to the pressure beneath the sea line? Here are some things to think about:

- SCUBA acronym: The word scuba is actually derived from an acronym for the words “self contained underwater breathing apparatus.” In other words, in order to survive beneath the water for a period of time, a diver must have the appropriate breathing device.

- Pressure: As a diver goes up and down in the water, there is pressure exerted on his or her lungs and chest region. Nearly fifteen pounds of pressure is exerted per square body inch for every thirty-plus feet of depth. In order to have the lungs functional and the tissue safe from too much pressure, suits and equipment must be set on just the right pressurization. An individual must go up and down at a specified rate as well in order not to get sick or develop the bends.

- What happens to implants underwater: Studies have been done with both saline and silicone implants to determine whether they will explode or cause problems while scuba diving. The devices were put in hyperbaric pressurized chambers to see if they could handle simulated circumstances without becoming damaged. These researchers created various recreational scuba dive conditions representative of different ocean depths and lengths of time beneath the ocean. Scientists found a tiny amount of bubbling in the saline and silicone implants but nothing of much consequence. Amounts of bubbling were only in the one to five percent range. A bit of volume change occurred as well plus some gas bubbles, but none of this caused damage. Researchers also felt that these alterations would return to normal conditions once the woman was back on land. None of the implants that were studied exploded or had any evidence that they would affect one’s surrounding tissue, either.

- Length of healing time after surgery: Doctors do recommend, however, that any surgical procedure be given time to heal before a person goes scuba diving. This is true for anything from an appendectomy to a nose job or boob job. It is also true for both males and females. A healing body needs TLC and to not be exposed to any unnecessary challenges such as diving, running a marathon or getting a divorce. Any additional strain placed on a body, physically or emotionally, will slow down the immune system. When opting for elective operations, it’s important that patients choose times when they’ll be able to rest and recuperate for a few months. If a new boob job has taken place, a female scuba diver would be wise to wait several months before setting up her next ocean adventure.

A breast augmentation can add curves to a woman’s body and increase her self confidence. The way a person looks plays a large part in their courage, self esteem and confidence. A timid woman who is afraid to take risks may suddenly find herself climbing mountains and signing up for scuba diving certification classes after she gains the confidence from her new and improved figure. Because scientists and medical researchers have done the studies to prove their safety, there’s no reason why a woman with breast implants shouldn’t step out and jump in.

Will My Breast Implants Pop During Sex?

When a woman first gets breast implants, she may be worried about their sturdiness, especially during sex. She may have heard rumors about them popping and this may cause her to be a bit paranoid. She may even be afraid to have anyone touch them at first. Ruptured implants are one of the dreaded risks of complication but if this does happen, it isn’t life threatening. The burst devices will merely have to be replaced. Women should realize, however, that this is a relatively rare occurrence and not something that will happen at the drop of a hat or a roll in the hay. So will they pop during sex? Here are some things to think about.

- Saline vs. silicone: Saline is a type of filling that is very similar to salt water. In other words, it’s a liquid that is very runny. If a leak or rupture did happen with saline, deflation would likely occur. A woman would likely notice that she was suddenly back to her normal size again on one side. Silicone isn’t quite the same thing. It is of a thicker consistency that doesn’t come flooding out should a rupture occur. The container and silicone gel are thick enough that what leakage would occur would likely be in small amounts.

- Gummy bears: A new type of implant being tested on today’s market is called a “gummy bear” device. That’s because they are filled with something resembling the consistency of the chewy candies they were named after. One of the benefits of this new type is that it is quite rupture and leak resistant.

Gummy Bears taste good, but we do not condone eating gummy bear implants.

- MRI’s to check for leakage: Some doctors are recommending that their patients who have had breast implants for several years undergo regular MRI evaluations to make sure that no undetected rupturing has occurred. There is conflicting opinions about this, however, because some feel that undergoing this expensive procedure is a bit of an overreaction to a mild concern.

- Leaks aren’t so terrible: Doctors say that the main concern with a leakage is that it would be uncomfortable in a patient and irregular looking, as well. Scar tissue formulation due to leaks could further problems such as encapsulation. No medical research has pointed to any dire consequences from ruptured devices, silicone or saline. In the past, there was worry about connective tissue diseases or some worried about a link to cancer but this has been proven to be false. If a burst implant occurred, it wouldn’t cause dangerous long term health concerns; it would simply be uncomfortable, irregular shaped and inconvenient.

- Reasons for ruptures: Worn out devices or hard blows to the breasts could cause them to burst. Even mammograms could be problematic should the technician be clumsy, clueless or untrained in mammography in implanted patients. It’s important to always have mammograms performed by techs who have been specially trained in this area. Ask your plastic surgeon to recommend a lab that employs technicians who are skilled in working with augmented patients.

This female does not have the type of breasts that could ever pop, but her boyfriend might break.

- Sex a month after operation: Many plastic surgeons recommend that their patients wait to have sex for one month following the procedure although some docs give the green light in as little as one week. The reason for the time off from lovemaking isn’t so much about bursting implants but rather for allowing time for the incisions to heal. The breasts may be extremely tender anyway for a couple of weeks after the procedure. So, it’s okay to entice one’s sweetie with the appearance of new full cleavage but for approximately one month, best to look and not touch.

- Keeping it moderate: Once the recovery period has passed, a woman with an augmented bustline will need to be relatively moderate in the bedroom. Massaging, touching and caressing are fine. In fact, this may help to reduce the possibility of capsular contracture. But no extreme rowdiness or roughness on the breasts – even in non-augmented bodies, rough touch on sensitive tissue is a no-no.

- Symptoms of a burst implant: If a patient develops symptoms of a rupture, she should see her doctor for a mammogram, CT scan, ultrasound or MRI to check it out. Some signs include redness, tingling, swelling, knots, lumps, distortion, unusual hardness or softness in the breast, armpit or surrounding region.

- Repair surgery: If the worst case scenario does indeed happen and a silicone or saline device begins to deflate or leak, a repair surgery would be necessary. If scarring has resulted in a capsular contracture, an operation to remedy it might be necessary. To replace a burst implant, the patient would need to be placed under anesthesia in order to remove the damaged device and replace it with a new implant. If a patient decides to go back to her natural size, a mastopexy might be necessary to lift the stretched out tissue. This is a rare occurrence.

Women with a new perky and full bustline shouldn’t give this “worst-case-scenario” anxiety too much thought and worry. One might need to even talk to a therapist about ways to get over her fears and enjoy her new, curvy body. It’s important for her to learn to relax and enjoy her augmented breasts in and out of the bedroom.

Is There An Age Appropriate Breast Augmentation Size?

When you’re thinking about breast augmentation, size really matters. Choosing the right size can be difficult and many women wonder if there are set sizes for certain ages. For example, is a certain size better for when you’re in your early twenties as opposed to your late 50′s?

While this isn't a real human being, it's evident that breasts this big are not appropriate for a human of any age.

The answer is that, when choosing implant size, age really isn’t a factor at all. Natural breast size is basically genetic. Your breasts stop growing after around four years after your first period, although they may grow well into your early 20′s. The most important thing to consider when choosing implant size is your body type and how they’ll look on it. And of course, you’ve got to think about how big you want to go! Lots of women choose to get small implants just for a little boost rather than going for a back-breaking bust.

Breast Size Considerations

The first thing to consider is your body’s overall shape. If you’re tall and skinny, going too big will probably look fake. But if you don’t care about that, larger breasts can really complement a thin woman’s figure. Look at all the actresses and supermodels today that have big busts and small butts. If you’re a little more voluptuous naturally, a bigger size is definitely going to look natural.

Next, you should think about what will happen over time. Everything naturally sags as you get older, and this includes your breast implants. Some women choose to get revision work done later in life to avoid the “rock in the sock” or droopy look. This is inevitable, but breast implant size will have some influence on it. Going with a smaller implant size will prevent them from looking strange as you get older, and there are some other things your plastic surgeon can suggest.

Finally, think about how your new breasts will affect your future life. What are your goals for getting breast augmentation? If it would make you feel better about yourself and give you some new clothing options, you can go from small to moderate. If it’s always been your dream to have a huge breast that turns heads, go ahead and go all out. How you want to look should be your main consideration. Don’t let your body type or the fact of aging prevent you from fulfilling your dreams!

Here are some other age considerations for women who are thinking about getting work done.

Breast Augmentation For Teenagers

There are a rising number of teens getting breast work and other plastic surgery done. It’s quickly becoming a common high school graduation present! But doctors warn that getting implants too early may not be a great idea in the long run. The reason is that your breasts may not be done fully developing until you’re in your early twenties. This may affect how they’ll look in the future.

Adults And Implants

Most women have fully developed breasts by the time they’re 18. You won’t see much change until you hit middle age and they start to sag. How big they are in adulthood and how they change when they get older is primarily genetic, so you can look at the older female relatives in your family to get a good idea. There are lots of implant size options and a plastic surgeon can help you decide which is best for you.

What matters more than age is body type. These women have breasts which are approximately the same size, but the one on the right has breasts which are actually proportionate to her body.

Getting Breast Work Done as You Get Older

Many women wonder if it’s possible to get breast work done when you get older. It’s totally possible for women in their 60′s or even older to get breast augmentation. In fact, it’s a pretty good idea! It’s a great way to make your breasts perkier and reduce the sag and droop that are caused by the progressing years. For many women, plastic surgery in later years is a wonderful way to reclaim their self-esteem and feel proud of their appearance. You can choose any size you want, although many older women prefer a subtle increase.

Since a woman’s breasts stop growing once she has reached adulthood, there is no way to determine appropriate breast implant size by age. Any size will produce the results you want at any age. Women from teenagers all the way up to grandmas get breast work done and the results make a huge difference in their lives.

The best way to decide on breast size, as well as type of implants, is to talk to a certified plastic surgeon. They’ve got before and after pictures and all sorts of ways to show you what your new bust will look like. Lots of clinics now use computer imaging so that you can get an exact picture of the New You. They can also give you advice on choosing the right size and type, and what will happen with your implants in the coming years.

How Dental Implants and Dentures Differ

If you have lost some or all of your teeth or are soon to have them extracted, you are probably thinking about getting dentures or dental implants. Without understanding the differences between these systems, it will be difficult to make your choice. Finding a good dentist will give you a source from whom to ask questions. But if you want to know some of the basic differences, here they are.

In years past, dentures were the only option for those who needed a full set of teeth replacements. Unless you simply wanted to live without teeth of any kind, there really weren’t any good alternatives. Today, things have changed. With the combination of advanced products and better techniques, patients can now choose to have dental implants. These are usually much more expensive than dentures, but they offer a lot of advantages that other systems do not. For those who are only missing a couple of teeth, they can be a substitute for removable teeth. Many patients prefer to have a more permanent replacement.

Even today, when a full replacement of the entire set of teeth is required, many dentists recommend conventional dentures. They come in a set of upper and lower replacements. The upper plate is designed to suction against the roof of the mouth. In many cases, they are used in conjunction with some kind of special adhesive that will prevent them from falling out at an inopportune time. Of course, though this adhesive will keep the dentures in place, it will also interfere somewhat with the patient’s ability to enjoy various flavors. There are several reasons why many patients have trouble with a set of dentures. Those with a sensitive gag reflex may find it very difficult to get used to having them in their mouth. Additionally, gum recession following tooth loss can cause problems with the replacements.

With dental implants, replacement teeth are inserted right into the gums, creating a system much more similar to an actual set of teeth. The appearance of these teeth is rather more natural looking than dentures and they are certainly less trouble for the patient. As stated, however, having them surgically implanted can be expensive. Once they are in, however, they are very stable and many patients can continue to enjoy their artificial teeth just as they would their original set. Anyone who is interested in getting dental implants should discuss the possibility with their dentist to see if they are a viable candidate.

Dental Implants – Your Way to an Improved Smile

Dental implants are used to replace missing teeth. They can enhance your smile and help the natural shape of your face return following an injury or natural tooth loss. They are created to look natural and duplicate the look of your own teeth. They also function as real teeth, allowing you to eat and chew as normal.

Dental Implants are placed into the bones of your jaw and can last for the duration of your life. There are various types available, but the actual insertion will not come unless they are removed.

A dentist can recommend that a person have them inserted into the jaw. Some people have the procedure done instead of dentures, which may not always have a perfect fit. In some cases, they are used to provide support for dentures.

The dental implants are made of titanium and won’t make clicking sounds like some dentures do. These artificial teeth won’t decay, but you care for them just as you care for your natural teeth. You must brush and floss them. In order to have them surgically installed, you must have a firm, established jawbone. The bone must be able to heal around the artificial tooth.

During your medical consultation, a dentist will take a model of your teeth as well as get x-rays of your mouth if you do not have current x-rays on file. You will learn about the timeframe for the procedure, because it can take several months for the artificial insertion to heal inside your mouth.

Depending on your circumstance, you may need to see several dentists who specialize in different aspects of tooth care. Your dentists will also inform you of any risks or complications associated with having your surgery. Like most procedures, there is a risk for infection. This surgery may also put you at risk for having nerve and sinus problems, according to the Mayo Clinic.

You will be given anesthesia during the surgeries, so you won’t feel any pain. Patients should expect to have several surgeries, because the area is prepared and the teeth are inserted within certain periods or stages, according to the Mayo Clinic. The surgery to insert the teeth is performed as an outpatient procedure.

The months that it takes to complete the procedure is due to the healing process, because it can take several months for the bone to grow around the prosthesis insertion. For some patients, the jawbone does not provide enough support for the prosthesis, so doctors complete a process that is called bone grafting. During this procedure, bone from another part of your body replaces your jawbone. When a bone graft is needed, the process, from inserting the prosthesis to healing, can take longer than normal. The transplanted bone graft must heal into the jaw. Some people need more extensive bone grafting than other people.

The dental implants surgery entails drilling holes into the jaw and a place-holder is inserted into these holes until the jaw heals. Once the jaw heals around these place-holders, the artificial teeth are eventually inserted.

When seeking dental implants Edgewater NJ residents should know that this investment will make them more attractive. If you want more information about this please visit: http://www.skyviewdentalgroup.com/.

Heart Doctor – What Can a Heart Doctor do for You?

A heart doctor can help people stay healthy. The physician can also trouble-shoot potential problems that a person may have with her cardio system. It is recommended that you see a physician if you have family members who have diseases related to the cardiovascular system.

There are some complications of an attack. A person may experience a change in rhythm, which can result in death. When the cardio muscle is weak, a person’s beat can become abnormal. After an attack, you can experience cardio failure, meaning that your cardiac organ does in inadequate job at pumping blood throughout the body. You can recover from cardiac failure when the condition improves after a few weeks. The condition can be problematic when it is chronic, according to the Mayo Clinic.

A heart doctor can determine if a patient has a problem with her valve or if there is a rupture in the cardiac organ. A skilled physician can perform a cardiac catheterization to find out if there are other issues related to the cardiac organ. With this procedure, the physician can find blocks, or check the oxygen levels in the organ. The heart doctor can also check for congenital problems or take a biopsy for further study. The doctor can complete several procedures that will correct problems. For example, the surgeon can repair holes or open valves.

A cardiologist performs medical examinations to check your cardiovascular system if it is suspected that you are having problems. The doctor will listen to the beats and complete blood tests to check for disease.

Checking for high cholesterol as well as checking for high blood pressure and determining if you have diabetes can also help determine risk for cardio problems. A B-type Natriuretic peptic test can help determine if the body has higher than normal levels of the BNP protein. Higher than normal levels of this protein can indicate a strain on the cardiovascular system. This test in association with other risk factors can determine future problems.

Risk factors for cardio attack include smoking, age, and a lifestyle that does not include exercise. People who do not handle stress well and those who are obese should also see a physician regularly to check for problems with their cardiovascular system. According to the Mayo Clinic, people who use drugs that are stimulants can also lead to problems with the cardiovascular system. Individuals with parents, siblings, grandparents or other relatives with cardiovascular problems may also have these issues in their lives.

When preparing for your appointment with a heart doctor, it is a good idea to create a list of any symptoms that you are experiencing. This will allow you to discuss all of your issues in a cohesive and efficient manner. It is also a good idea to list any medication that you are taking now or you have taken in the past. You may have to list this information on a medical history form. If you don’t list this information prior to the appointment, it will be easy to forget to list some of the medication.

For prevention, adults are advised to get regular check-ups, exercise, quit smoking, and take medications that are recommended by their physicians. Some of the risk for cardiovascular diseases can be diminished by changing your lifestyle.

Real Housewives of Orange County Surgeon: Reality TV, Plastic Surgery 101

One doesn’t typically think of reality television as educational, but if you’re considering getting plastic surgery, it can be. With many reality stars going under the knife on air, we’re afforded the opportunity to see the whole process dramatized from consultation, to recovery, and beyond. If reality television has taught us one thing, it’s that the Real Housewives of Orange County surgeon is a busy guy. In six seasons of that show we’ve seen people consult about and go through with myriad procedures, including but not limited to breast augmentation, breast lifts, BOTOX injections, body contouring, and rhinoplasty.

Through watching that show, and others like it, those who are interested in possible surgery get to observe a few important things. First, we get to see a top doctor, like that Real Housewives of Orange County surgeon, consulting with patients. In this way, it is possible to gain information about what sort of procedures are out there without having to schedule a consultation of your own. Of course, you’ll eventually need to have a consultation about your specific needs, but if you’re just in the pondering stage, it can be nice to get this inside look at what’s available.

These shows also provide the opportunity to watch someone go through the surgery and recovery period. Many cosmetic procedures constitute major surgery and there are significant risks involved. It is important that you know what you’re getting into. While the results should be pretty, the process and recovery will not be. Since reality television is designed to capitalize on any drama, you can be sure that if anything goes wrong with a reality star’s surgery, it will be included in the show. You shouldn’t let this scare you away completely, but take note of the risks and make sure that you’re approaching your surgery with realistic expectations.

Finally, seeing these surgeries dramatized on television affords us the opportunity to look at the results, and at how the results hold up over time. We’ve now seen some reality starts come to regret certain aspects of their surgeries. One cast member on the Real Housewives has decided to replace her breast implants. It turns out that this is a pretty common issue amongst women who have that procedure. Many women choose a larger implant than they end up being comfortable with and end up needing to have further surgeries to replace them with smaller models. At that point it is also often necessary to have a breast lift to get the implants to sit at an attractive level.

Seeing the mistakes of others play out on reality television means that you’ll approach your own procedure responsibly and be less likely to make those same mistakes. So the next time you tune in, be aware that in between the wine throwing, the grudge holding, and the gossip, there lies some potentially helpful information. By observing the workings of the Real Housewives of Orange County surgeon, we can get a pretty good idea of what to expect if we decide to pursue plastic surgery.

The Real Housewives of Orange County surgeon is an actual practicing doctor, and you too can get the great results that the stars of the show have! To learn more about the work done by this plastic surgeon, please visit http://www.newportbeachplasticsurgery.com/.

Liposuction – Removing Your Problem Area

You’ve probably tried it all but still have at least one problem area on your body. Diet and exercise can only do so much to rid you of your fatty areas. Sometimes liposuction is the answer.

No one likes to think of the fat in their lives. It is a pain to deal with and often leads to embarrassment. For most areas diet and exercise are you best tools to rid yourself of that embarrassing pouch of fat. This method works probably 95% of the time, but there are some areas in which this just doesn’t work like you want it to. If this is the case then you probably have considered having something done about it.Liposuction can help you rid yourself of your problem areas.

Liposuction is not a magic bullet by any means. But what it can do for you is take the hassle out of trying to lose that extra little spot of fat. It could be in a place that you’ve spent months working to get rid of the fat or it could be in an area that isn’t an easy exercise area. Many of the areas on your body are able to undergo this type of procedure. The possibilities for this type of procedure are almost limitless.

When you are deciding to have liposuction you should consider everything. This is an invasive procedure, meaning there will be an incision. IT will be a small incision that will be virtually unnoticeable once everything has healed. You will be sore and the area will more than likely swell and bruise slightly.

The swelling should be gone within a few days and the bruising within a couple of weeks. This should be taken into consideration so that you can plan carefully. Most of the time you can go about your daily business shortly after the procedure, but there are times where you’ll have to wait a little longer before getting back to your normal life.

So how is liposuction accomplished? A small incision is made on the area you want the procedure performed. A tube connected to a hose is inserted into the incision. A laser at the end of the tube melts the fat turning it liquid so that it can be suctioned up by the tube. Some, not all, of the fat in the area is removed and the remaining fat is recontoured to even out the area. Once the swelling goes down, voila, your problem area is a thing of the past.

Before you have liposuction make sure that you are in reasonably good shape to have the procedure. You need to talk to your doctor about care of the incision site and how to help maintain your new found figure. The fat cells will not regenerate but since the remaining cells were redistributed you can always gain weight there again if you don’t maintain a healthy life style.

Choose a Lancaster Liposuction specialist that can give you a flatter tummy that exercise and diet couldn’t do. Check out past photos of patients here: http://www.berksplasticsurgery.com.

Liposuction: Healthy Tips to Prepare

The time has come. You finally feel that you can no longer maintain living in the unhealthy body you have and you want to lose weight and look great. The decision has been made and you want to have liposuction to look better than you have before. Of course it is not that simple: one does not simply walk into a plastic surgeon’s office, go under the knife, and emerge a toned goddess. No, before having liposuction surgery it is necessary to prepare yourself physically and to be more than just eager but actually able to have the procedure.

Liposuction is focuses on removing excess fat and tissue that is resistant to diet and exercise. That means that first one must lose all of the other weight. Before getting cosmetic surgery it is important to make one’s body look as good as possible without it.

The first step is, if you smoke, to quit as soon as you can. Smoking is not only bad for one’s health because it increases risks of cardiovascular disease and cancer, but it also makes surgery more complicated and can make healing harder. So, before anything else, quit smoking. It will make the rest of the steps just that much easier.

It’s also important to begin eating well. Diet is the most important factor in a healthy body. Replacing sugars and saturated fats will not only put you on the path to looking better, but you will feel better, too. If it is too hard to eliminate these things right off the bat, begin by increasing the amount of fresh fruits and vegetables you eat. Also, eliminate snacking between meals and eating late at night. This impulse eating is when we make the poorest diet decisions and so they should be reduced or eliminated. Try to replace fatty red meat with leaner pork or fish. Skip heavy sauces and instead use lemon or herbs to flavor meals. There are many small things that can be done to improve one’s diet and it only takes a few before they start making a difference you will notice. Before long you will begin shedding pounds and be getting down to a weight that is appropriate for liposuction.

Once one starts eating well they will start feeling well. Energy will improve and it will be much easier to undertake this next step: exercise. Begin by simply walking around the block. Each day increase the distance. Once you start feeling like you can do it without breaking a sweat or running out of breath, begin jogging the same short distances. It may not seem like it is making a difference, but before long, you will start feeling the weight shedding off. Another great choice for beginning to exercise is swimming if you have access to a pool. Swimming is easy on the joints and is a whole body workout. It is a fantastic way to begin losing fat and getting in shape.

Weight loss is often complicated by our culture’s diet fads. The media says “no carbs,” then “no fats,” then “more protein.” In reality it is a simple formula. If the calories that you eat are less than the calories that you burn, you will lose weight. A few months or maybe a year of good diet and healthy exercise will put you in a good position to have liposuction.

Do you have a few problematic areas on your body retained fat? When they’re looking for great results in liposuction Manhattan residents can look into a qualified plastic surgeon’s clinic to find just what they desire. To find one in that area, please bring your web browser over to http://www.drzevon.com/

Eyelid Surgery – New Jersey Patient Christine Loves Her New Outlook!

Six weeks ago, 68-year old Christine, had upper and lower eyelid surgery and can’t believe how great her eyes look now.  Christine, who’s married and works full-time overcame her husband’s objections to surgery and both of them are thrilled with the results.

Christine had had plastic surgery before, 21 years ago when she lived in Southern California.  Back then she had an extensive facelift, that included her eyes, neck, chin implant and a chemical peel.

“I only wanted to have my eyes done this time.  I had started to develop some droop in my upper eyes, but it was mostly the bagginess and the crepe skin on the lower lids that bothered me,” said Christine.

Christine began asking around for referrals of plastic surgeons.  For eyelid surgery, New Jersey surgeon Dr. Paul M. Parker’s name came up several times and when her dermatologist recommended him, Christine decided to do some research on the internet.

“I used the Parker Center website not only get more information about Dr. Parker but also to get information about the surgery as well.  It was great, there was so much information.  A lot of my questions were answered by the video,” explained Christine.

Christine was very impressed when she met Dr. Parker.  She described him as very pleasant with a gentle, unrushed manner, yet thoroughly professional. He took time to make sure she understood blepharoplasty (eyelid rejuvenation) surgery thoroughly.

Christine took a week off from work, but felt good enough to go out after few days with sunglasses on, and was back working on the computer at the end of the week.  Christine was anxious for the swelling to go down quickly and slept in chair to help speed the process.

“I also had the three lymphatic massages at Beaura Spa that were part of my surgery and enjoyed every minute of them.  I think they really helped with the swelling.  I remember after the second one my eyes and nose watered, shedding some of that excess fluid.  I bought three more massages at the end, because I felt so good afterward,” Christine recalled.

Christine’s advice to other women considering eyelid surgery in New Jersey is to go to someone experienced and trusted by others.  There’s no substitute for experience and professionalism and Christine found Dr. Parker to be all those things and kind as well.

Christine loves the way her eyes look, she can see that her eyes are open more, giving her a fresh youthful appearance.  Both she and her husband are happy that she decided to have this surgery and so pleased with Dr. Parker and the Parker Center.

Parker Tummy Tuck Patient Samantha Shows Off Her New Body in Competition

Samantha, 39 is a stay at home mom of three young children with one set of twins. The pregnancies left Samantha with stretch marks, excess skin, stretched out abdominal muscles, an umbilical hernia and a lot of stomach and digestive discomfort.

“Once my hernia started bothering me, my gynecologist told me I really needed to have the surgery and that I should have a tummy tuck done too because of the problem with the abdominal muscles. I work out everyday, I’m really fit but I had stretched out my abdominal muscles and that made me look pregnant,” explained Samantha.

Even though Samantha’s gynecologist recommended Dr. Parker to her, Samantha did a lot of research on her own and asked friends and family for additional recommendations. In all Samantha had four consultations prior to selecting Dr. Parker and the Parker Center.

There were several key factors that led Samantha to choose Dr. Parker for her surgery. Number one was Dr. Parker himself. Samantha found him warm, friendly & professional. She also appreciated the thorough and efficient way the office operates. The other reasons for choosing the Parker Center was the fact that Samantha would be spending the night in their on-site, fully certified ambulatory surgical center, Surgiplex.

Finally, three post-operative lymphatic massages in the Parker Center’s onsite medi spa, The Beaura Spa, are included along with the procedure.

“I had never had anesthesia before and I was nervous, but the idea of staying in the Surgiplex overnight and cared for a Registered Nurse one on one made me feel much more comfortable. I’m also a big believer in massage therapy. I’m very aware and conscious of the physical state of my body and I liked the idea of the lymphatic massage to reduce swelling and aid in the healing process,” said Samantha.

Prior to her surgery, Samantha always had the most difficult time with clothing. Even though she is very fit, she had to dress to cover her abdomen. She couldn’t wear tight-fitting clothes and always purchased tops that could be bloused over her abdomen or not tucked in.

“It’s the best thing I’ve ever done. I’m so much more comfortable now. I had to think about my abdomen all the time. Now I’m much more confident, never self-conscious, and don’t ever think about my abdomen. I can buy all kinds of cute, tight-fitting tops. I’ve had several friends of friends’ call me to ask about my surgery and I tell them and anyone who is considering this surgery, just how wonderful I feel” Samantha exclaimed.

Samantha works as a part-time fitness instructor and in the year since her surgery has been training for a body building competition. Samantha competed in body building competitions before she became a mom and after having her surgery wanted to do it again as she approaches age 40. Last weekend was her show and she thoroughly enjoyed training and participating in her sport once again.

“The Parker Center has a warm and welcoming office staff and you can tell they’re on top of things. You don’t leave the office wondering about anything. They cover it all from what’s going to happen when, costs, to returning phone calls. They are definitely “on their game” and it made me feel so relaxed and comfortable about having the surgery,” Samantha said.

Samantha explained that she was thrilled with her results and had only really one friend who had the surgery that she could compare herself to. Samantha explained that her friend had gone to a Park Avenue surgeon in New York.

“I like my results better than hers. My scar is minimal and anyone who has seen my belly button thinks it looks great compared to others they’ve seen. Mine looks ten times better. It just goes to show you that you don’t have to go to New York and pay their prices to get beautiful work,” Samantha said.

The Parker Tummy Tuck is the combination of a traditional Tummy Tuck with abdominal liposuction, also known as a lipoabdominoplasty, to give patients the best looking results. By combining these two procedures Dr. Parker is able to substantially improve the look and shape of the abdomen, with less likelihood of post operative complications or numbness. It also gives patients a shorter, less noticeable scar and quicker post-operative recovery with less bruising, swelling and pain.

After the Face Lift, New Jersey Patient Lynne Looks and Feels Like Herself Again!

Lynne, a 50 year old working mom of three, recently started to feel that her face had become very droopy and jowly.  Unhappy when she looked in the mirror, she made the decision to consult with Dr. Parker about a face lift.

“I was very unhappy with the way I looked.  I know I’m very critical of myself but I felt that my face no longer looked like me and I wanted to do something about it,” explained Lynne.

Lynne consulted with Dr. Parker because he had done an eyelift on Lynne a few years ago.  Lynne had lost some weight and developed bags under her eyes.  Lynne was so pleased with the results of that surgery that she knew that Dr. Parker was the only surgeon she would consider.

As Lynne was finding, the soft tissues of her cheeks and neck descend with age and gravity. A facelift counters this by removing excess skin and tightening the remaining tissues in the mid and lower face as well as neck.  Dr. Parker worked on Lynne’s neck in addition to her face.

Lynne had her surgery in September and said that the process was uncomfortable but not painful.  Dr. Parker’s facelift patients stay overnight in the Parker Center’s ambulatory surgical center, Surgiplex, monitored by registered nurses.  Surgiplex is a fully accredited and certified facility, with state-of-the-art equipment. Lynne described the care there as second to none.

“I was treated so well at the Surgiplex.  I cannot imagine how that experience could be better.  Everyone there was so attentive, caring and really professional.  They make you feel so comfortable,” said Lynne.

Patient safety is of the utmost importance to the Parker Center.  Dr. Parker is a board certified plastic surgeon with over twenty year’s experience.  His anesthesiologists are all board certified.  The registered nurses and surgical technicians are all highly skilled and work with Dr. Parker on a daily basis.

“I am so thrilled with the results.  Dr. Parker told me I would look “refreshed” and I do.  Now when I look in the mirror, I see me.  I look like myself again, not tired or angry looking,” said Lynne.

Facelift New Jersey cosmetic surgery patients at The Parker Center get customized care.  The goal of facelift surgery at the Parker Center is to restore your face to a more youthful, rested state with an aesthetically pleasing and natural-looking result.

To learn more about a face lift, New Jersey men and women should visit our website to see before and after photos and learn more about the surgery.  For a free consultation call the Parker Center today at 201-967-1212.

Patty Celebrates Her New Jersey Tummy Tuck

Patty is a 34 year old single professional woman who lost over 100 lbs. the old fashioned way (diet and exercise) and has managed to keep the weight off for over three years.  While this achievement alone was worth celebrating, Patty was always unhappy with the excess skin that came along with her tremendous weight loss.

“My doctor had told me there was nothing that could be done about the skin, because I had always been overweight.  The skin had just stretched too much.  After the weight loss, I was a size 18 but I knew if I got rid of the loose skin, I could be a size 12 or even a size 10,” explained Patty.

Since Patty has kept her weight off for 4 years, she was considered a very good candidate for an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck).  Tummy tuck surgery is not recommended as a weight loss tool.  It is recommended for women and men who have stabilized their body weight but still have excess baggy skin on their abdomen.  This surgery will remove the excess sagging skin and repair the stretched abdominal muscles due to pregnancy or weight gain, then loss.

“One of my friends had a New Jersey tummy tuck and breast lift with Dr. Parker last June and recommended that I go see him.  After meeting Dr. Parker, I felt so comfortable. I decided I was ready to do this.  I had a talk with my mom and decided it was worth the investment,” said Patty.

In Patty case, Dr. Parker wound up removing over 20 pounds of excess skin and fat in performing the Parker New Jersey Tummy Tuck, a combination of liposuction and tummy tuck.  Patty describes her recovery as uncomfortable, but not painful.  Two days after surgery, at her follow-up visit, Patty had her posture back to normal.  Standing up completely straight after abdominal surgery can take a week or so.

“I’m very happy I had the surgery.  I had the procedure performed 3 months ago, and since then, I’ve lost an additional 20 pounds. I’ve gone from a size 18 dress to a 12, which feels loose. I feel like I’m continuing to shrink more every day. It’s wonderful now to try on clothes and not have all that excess skin.  The Parker Center made it a wonderful experience.  They were always so caring and happy to see me.  I loved the lymphatic massages too.   I signed up for three more afterwards, because I left the spa feeling so wonderful,” Patty exclaimed.

Lymphatic massage is part of the Rapid Recovery Program at the Parker Center.  Dr. Parker has developed a unique set of protocols to help patients recover quickly, with less discomfort, and minimal swelling and bruising.  It allows New Jersey tummy tuck patients to return to their active, busy lives as quickly as possible.

Patty had combined her Parker Tummy Tuck with liposuction on her hips and back for a more pleasing body contour.  This combination of procedures gives patients like Patty the tight, toned shape they love. “I feel like a new person”, says Patty. “I’m thrilled with my results and for choosing the Parker Center. Every day, I see more positive changes in by body which help me look forward to summer and a whole new wardrobe”.

Breast Implant Revision – New Jersey Patient Meghan Thrilled She Found Dr. Parker

Everyday for the past five years, Meghan, 23 was in pain on her left side and had trouble raising her left arm completely. Meghan suffered from capsular contraction from breast augmentation surgery she had five years previously. This is a hardening of the lining around the implant. It can be painful and can create an asymmetrical look to your breasts.

Meghan never told anyone, even her parents about her pain. She finally decided to do something about it with encouragement from her boyfriend. He wanted her to at least consult with a few surgeons to learn about what options were available for breast implant revision in New Jersey.

“I was really upset that this happened to me. I felt guilty. I didn’t want to tell my parents because they had paid for the surgery,” said Meghan.

Meghan had called about a dozen doctors in Manhattan, Rockland County and Northern New Jersey. Many of the Manhattan doctors charged astronomical prices and others charged for consultations. Meghan had liked the before and after photos as well as the “look and feel”of the Parker Center website and called for an appointment.

Meghan was scared that she wasn’t ready to see a surgeon yet but felt instantly comfortable when she went to The Parker Center. Everyone was so kind and caring, they made her feel secure. Meeting Dr. Parker, she was confident that she had made the right decision.

“I met Dr. Parker and felt like I didn’t have to look anymore. He made me feel super educated about what I was going through and he clearly explained how he could correct it. When you feel that educated and knowledgeable about the process, you relax,” Meghan stated.

Meghan had her first breast augmentation surgery at age 18 by a famous surgeon in Miami. She felt she was in good hands but now understands that the quality of care she received for breast implant revision, New Jersey located The Parker Center was vastly superior.

The staff at The Parker Center took a lot of time to fully explain the process and list the post-op do’s and don’ts. The Rapid Recovery Program also impressed Meghan. This was going the extra mile that she didn’t see other surgeons doing. She believes that this was a group of medical professionals who truly care about their patients, take pride in what they do and put the best possible work out there.

“In the New York area, you have a lot of choices of doctors. But I felt I got the best care, at a reasonable cost and I built a relationship with the staff at The Parker Center. It’s far beyond anything I could have gotten on Park Avenue. No comparison,” Meghan declared.

It’s been two months since Meghan replaced her saline implants with silicone. She is really happy with the fuller, more natural look and has enjoyed being pain free. Dr. Jeffrey Donaldson Tells Women They Have Options for Inverted Nipple Repair

Inverted nipples are relatively common and can be both embarrassing and unsightly. They are caused by shortened or scarred breast tissue ducts that pull the nipple inward. The condition may arise from birth or external trauma, and most women don’t know about the possible treatment options. With inverted nipple surgery, Columbus Ohio’s Dr. Jeffrey Donaldson, provides a simple and virtually painless correction.

Over the past half-century, many operations have been described for inverted nipples with varying success. Dr. Jeffery Donaldson has developed a minimally invasive technique that is quick and effective with less downtime. For inverted nipple surgery, Columbus, Ohio surgeon Dr. Donaldson, uses a microscopic scalpel that is usually reserved for delicate eye procedures. One side of the nipple is entered, and the underlying ducts are released so the nipple can return to a more anatomic position. A supportive stitch is then placed and the procedure is concluded. The results are instant and dramatic, and patients are typically thrilled!

Inverted nipples can be also be treated during other breast procedures, such as breast augmentation or lifting – just ask your surgeon to help create a plan that is customized to your needs and goals.

Dr. Donaldson is a board certified plastic surgeon with offices in Columbus, OH.

Northern New Jersey Cosmetic Surgery Patient Abby Thrilled with New Lip Enhancement

Abby is a 40-something professional woman with a family who never left her house without lipstick.  She had thought about doing something to augment her lips like injections but never really liked the way it looked.

“My upper lip was so thin, without lipstick, it was invisible.  But I never liked the puffed-up look that injections give people.  It almost looks too plump, like you have a fat lip,” explained Abby.

Recently, an acquaintance of Abby’s mentioned that she had had her lips augmented with an implant in Northern New Jersey. Cosmetic Surgery from Dr. Parker had Abby so impressed with the look and feel of her friend’s lips.  Abby loved the natural look and thought the idea of an implant that could be inserted once was worth investigating.

Abby knew Dr. Parker professionally and approached him about lip implants.  Dr. Parker explained that this new type of lip implants that have a much softer texture and natural look to them.

“The idea that I could have a natural looking lip implant and not have to re-inflate my lips every few months with injections was very appealing to me.  With injections you’re constantly re-inflating your lips, how can that look natural?” Abby thought.

Northern New Jersey Cosmetic Surgery ImageDr Parker of the Parker Center uses the new Perma Facial Implant that is a soft, solid piece of silicone that comes in a variety of sizes.  This facial implant is FDA approved and produces a natural looking lip contour. As one soft, solid piece it cannot rupture or deflate.

The lip implant surgery was performed on a Friday and Abby was back at work that Monday.  She felt mild some discomfort and swelling during the first 36 hours or so but felt very confident going back to work.

“After the first few days, they felt like my own.  When I went back to work I thought I’d be swollen and everyone would notice but I wasn’t.  I looked great,” said Abby.

Lip implants work out to be less expensive than injectables.  Although the initial cost of surgery is more, it is almost equal to a year’s worth of injectables.  By the second year and beyond you’re saving money.  Injections must be done every few months and expense is not the only concern.  Injectables are also time consuming and uncomfortable.

“This implant gives me a beautiful, natural looking lip.  It doesn’t look puffy or fat at all to me.  Best of all, my husband cannot feel the implant when he’s kissing me.  Now I go out without any lipstick on!” exclaimed Abby.

Dr. Mark Mitchell Jones, Atlanta Plastic Surgeon, Leading Authority in Ear Reconstruction Techniques

Microtia (Latin for “little ear”) is a congenital deformity that can affect one ear or occasionally both. The small bones of the middle ear and the cartilage of the external ear do not fully develop in patients with Microtia. In addition to the physical deformity involving the middle and outer ear with Microtia, there is almost always severe hearing loss as well.

Having a deformity like Microtia is often a psychological problem for a child in addition to the physical challenges. Successful reconstruction surgery can give children and adults with these defects maximum physical, social and emotional functioning with no self-consciousness and eliminate self-esteem issues.

There are several methods available for microtia surgery including sculpted rib grafts, artificial ear implants, or plastic glue-on or snap-on ears. The tried and true method of the sculpted rib graft technique however has stood the test of time. The rib graft technique has the advantage of using one’s own natural tissue that will grow along with the child and not be rejected by the body. It also will not fall off during sports activities and is less susceptible to the infections that plague artificial ears.

The sculpted rib graft technique has been evolving and improving due to the efforts of surgeons like Dr. Mark Jones. Dr. Jones’ superior training and international experience has allowed him to develop improvements to the best reconstruction standards.

Ear Reconstruction surgery is one of the most challenging surgeries a reconstructive surgeon faces. Most surgeons focus on either the aesthetic or the internal function of the ear often choosing one at the expense of the other. Dr. Jones is a uniquely qualified surgeon with over 20 years of first class education, training and experience in cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery. He holds double board certification by The American Board of Plastic Surgery and The American Board of Otolaryngology (ear, nose, and throat; ENT). Dr. Jones is nationally recognized for his authority on the outer ear and can perform the outer ear reconstruction without compromising the workings of the middle ear.

This unmatched skill and mastery of both sides of surgery has helped Dr. Jones develop his own proprietary enhancements to rib graft surgery that result in longest-lasting outcomes and minimize the scarring on his patients. Dr. Jones considers each individual patient as a beautiful work of art and creates extraordinary results that look natural and elegant on both the inside and the outside.

For details on ear reconstruction surgery or correction of other congenital defects, contact Atlanta plastic surgeon Dr. Mark Mitchell Jones at 404-355-3566 or online at http://www.atlantaear.com/

Male Breast Reduction- New Jersey Patient, Cole, Finally gets the Body he’s Worked For

Cole is a 43 year old professional who’s married with 3 kids.  In 1988, Cole lost over 100 lbs. through diet and exercise but still had what’s commonly known as “man boobs”.  Cole suffered from a very common condition called gynecomastia or enlarged male breasts.

“I felt this was self-inflicted.  Something I had done to myself from all the weight I gained.  I thought if I just worked out harder or differently I could get rid of it.  It took me a long time to realize that I couldn’t.  I finally realized that surgery might be the only way,” said Cole.

Although Cole had thought about having surgery done for a very long time, and had done a lot of research, he decided to wait until technology made the procedure less invasive.  He really started his research and investigating about two or three years ago.

Male Breast Reduction New Jersey ImageCole found Dr. Parker through a friend who had some work done on his eyes at The Parker Center and from his research on the internet.  Cole wanted someone who had a lot of experience working with men.  Over the last few years Cole had seen 3 or 4 other surgeons, but never felt quite right about the surgeons.

“Other doctors were very cold, and they seemed more intent on collecting my deposit.  That wasn’t for me.  Dr. Parker is very genuine, very warm and real.  He has no arrogance about his demeanor.  He explained the procedure in detail—I would need liposuction to remove the unwanted fatty tissues from my breast. I felt right at home with him,” said Cole.

Dr. Parker was very honest and upfront with Cole and let him know that at age 43, the skin might not bounce back as well as a 21-year old.  Cole might require some additional tightening through a second procedure. Cole felt the whole experience was very positive, from the first phone call until his last appointment just last week.

It was important to Cole to feel just as good in clothes as out of them.  He loves that he can wear tight fitting workout shirts and is comfortable wearing sweaters to work as well as going shirtless to the beach or out on the boat.

Male Breast Reduction New Jersey Image“I’m thrilled to death.  Dr. Parker exceeded my expectations.  My chest is flat, finally. I’m in the gym six days a week and would have never been able to accomplish this.  I’m so comfortable in my own skin now, for the first time in a very long time.  The difference is amazing,” said Cole. He and Dr. Parker agree that his skin has responded nicely to the procedure and a second tightening surgery seems very unlikely at this point.

Gynecomastia correction is done by removing the excess fat deposits with and glandular tissue as necessary with liposuction to achieve a flatter, firmer more contoured chest.  Dr. Parker and staff of The Parker Center have helped dozens of male breast reduction New Jersey patients regain their self- confidence and increase their self-esteem.

New Jersey Abdominoplasty for Men – Helps Michael get fully Fit

Michael, a 28-year old single man and self-confessed gym rat, had lost over 60 lbs. several years ago.  Unfortunately this didn’t help the little pouch of fat and stretch marks around his abdomen, even though he works out five days a week.  Michael had considered having a tummy tuck for the last few years and even sought out consultations last year with several surgeons.

A combination of being between jobs that left him with a month of free time, a lot of research done on the internet and a determination to finally have the surgery led Michael to New Jersey plastic surgeon, Dr Paul Parker.

“Coming up, I had a whole month free and I had seen Dr. Parker’s website, the testimonials and the before and after pictures.  And then when I went to The Parker Center, that cinched it.  I knew this was the time to do this,” said Michael.

New Jersey Abdominoplasty for Men Image Michael liked the fact that he could have the tummy tuck done right at The Parker Center.  He thought that the staff was very warm and professional.

“They were very warm and helpful.  They answered all my questions.  I had done a ton of research, I had a whole file folder, so I felt really prepared and they reinforced my decision that now was the right time,” said Michael.

Michael says that his experience with The Parker Center was great right from his first appointment for a consultation to the surgery and after.  Michael, because he’s so active had some swelling concerns, and was immediately seen by the office and reassured that this was normal.

New Jersey Abdominoplasty for Men ImageTwo weeks after surgery, Michael began working out again lightly, just walking and bike riding.  Now six weeks after surgery, Michael has started lightly jogging and will start back to his regular workout routine in a week or so.

“Most people haven’t noticed, but most people don’t see me with my shirt off.  My girlfriend however has said that she’s sees a tremendous difference.  She thinks I look great,” said Michael.

In New Jersey, abdominoplasty for men at The Parker Center can remove loose, excess skin, smooth stretch mark and tighten your abs.   Our goal is to always deliver non-operated looking results with minimum downtime.

Breast Augmentation – New Jersey Patient Michelle Believes Dr. Parker was “Worth the Wait”

Michelle is a married, 35-year old working mom to an 8 year old. In May of this year she finally had the long-desired breast augmentation. New Jersey resident, Michelle had wanted to have breast surgery since she was in her early 20’s but never found the right doctor.

“I researched doctors and websites for years but I never found one where I liked the before and after photos. The after photos always looked weird and strangely unnatural, said Michelle.

Barely an A-cup after pregnancy and nursing, Michelle had decided that if all breast augmentations looked as fake as the photos she had seen, she’d live her life with her own small breasts.

One day her husband came home with a business card for The Parker Center in Paramus, New Jersey, that a friend’s wife had recommended. Michelle went on the internet and was shocked to see photos of women who looked completely normal.

Breast Augmentation New Jersey Image“I called Dr. Parker’s office and scheduled a consultation almost immediately. I didn’t see any other doctors. What was the point of wasting my time and theirs when I didn’t like their results,” said Michelle.

Her first visit to The Parker Center confirmed Michelle’s decision to have her breast augmentation. New Jersey surgeon, Dr. Parker, exhibited complete professionalism and made her absolutely comfortable, despite her usual feeling of unease around male doctors. This wasn’t so with Dr. Parker and this, coupled with the warmth of the staff, had her scheduling surgery almost right away.

Michelle’s surgery was done on a Thursday and she was back at work the following Tuesday. Other than a mild reaction to an antibiotic, Michelle’s recovery was a lot less painful than she anticipated and she’s completely thrilled with the result.

“I feel like they’re a part of me. They actually jiggle a little and that movement helps them seem more real. The implants are soft and natural looking. I feel so feminine now. I love them,” say Michelle.

Michelle appreciated the personalized patient care she received at The Parker Center. When she had the antibiotic problem, one of the nurses went above and beyond the norm and gave Michelle her personal cell phone number. Michelle was so appreciative of this dedication and service over a weekend no less.

Breast Augmentation New Jersey Image“I waited a long time to have this done. And let’s face it, it’s not inexpensive. But it was 100%, totally worth it. I would do it again in a heartbeat and I recommend Dr. Parker to anyone I hear talking about any cosmetic procedure,” says Michelle.

A natural looking result and a pain free recovery are the goals of The Parker Center. Dr Parker and his dedicated staff look to ensure that every patient receives personalized care and attention along with the highest surgical standards. Their Rapid Recovery Program
helps reduce patient downtime and minimizes discomfort.

“My husband says it’s the best money he’s ever spent and he’d do it again without batting an eye. I feel so wonderful every time I try on clothes. It’s hard to describe how just looking more feminine and attractive can make you feel. I can not say enough wonderful things about Dr. Parker and his staff,” said Michelle.

Male Breast Reduction – New Jersey Patient John gets Newfound Confidence and Peace

John, a 20-year old college student, suffered for years worrying about his larger than normal breasts.  John had a medical condition known as gynecomastia, or enlargement of the male breasts.  This is a relatively common condition that can affect younger and older men.  It also can affect just one breast or both.

“You’re really self-conscious.  You don’t want to go anywhere where you’ll have to take off your shirt, like a friend’s pool or the beach,” says John.

For several years, John, who lives at home with his parents, had thought about having a male breast reduction.  New Jersey articles about the condition were clipped and given to him by his mom. She even found a plastic surgeon, but John decided to look into it more on his own.

Male Breast Reduction New Jersey ImageJohn looked around the internet, read patient reviews and looked at tons of before and after photos.  John narrowed it down to about three plastic surgeons to consider.  The first was New Jersey plastic surgeon, Dr. Paula Parker.  John liked The Parker Center’s website, he felt it had a lot of educational information.  He also listened to the patient video testimonials and learned more about the procedure.

“I met with Dr. Parker and he was a real nice guy, very professional, made me feel really comfortable, right away.  Both my parents met him too and they were impressed.  I wouldn’t have done it if my parents weren’t confident in Dr. Parker,” said John.

John had no hesitation about going ahead with the surgery after he met with Dr. Parker for his consultation.  He felt he didn’t need to see any other doctors.  John had his surgery in late July, was up and about the same day and returned to most all activities within a few days.

Male Breast Reduction New Jersey Image“I had a really good recovery.  No real pain, just uncomfortable for the first few days.  Before I knew it I was back in my old routine.  And now I never have to think about my problem anymore.  It’s gone. I love the way I look and feel, now. Dr. Parker did a great job and his staff is awesome. Everything they told me about before surgery worked out that way and they took great care of me afterwards,” said John.

Gynecomastia correction is done by removing excess fatty deposits and breast tissue as necessary to achieve a flatter, firmer chest.  Dr. Parker and staff of The Parker Center have helped dozens of male breast reduction New Jersey patients regain their self- confidence and increase their self-esteem.

Breast Augmentation – New Jersey Patient Tonya Loves her New “Natural” Breasts

Tonya is a 33-year old teaching professional who, when she’s not working, is busy chasing a two year old toddler.  After nursing her baby left her full “A” cup breasts deflated, uneven and barely able to fill a bra, she decided to have a breast augmentation.

New Jersey educator and researcher by profession, she took the same approach she would for her work when she was considering plastic surgery.  She researched the procedure, checked out the websites of several physicians and made appointments with five plastic surgeons for consultations.

The Parker Center was the second on her list and after meeting the staff and Dr. Parker, Tonya cancelled the rest of her consultation appointments.

“I felt the website was very thorough, very educational about the process, not just centered around the doctor. There was substance there, not just fluff,” said Tonya.

Tonya thought that the entire office was a very professional, warm and caring place.  She had the same feeling when she had her first meeting with Dr. Parker.  Tonya is tall, but has a very slender torso.  She had concerns about breast surgery being too obvious on someone her size.  Understanding Tonya’s concerns about breast augmentation, New Jersey surgeon Dr. Parker assured her that she would look completely natural after surgery.

“From my first phone call everyone was so warm and knew their jobs so well.  The fact that I felt a trust with Dr. Parker, that was the deciding factor for me,” said Tonya.

Choosing an implant size was an issue for Tonya.  Because of her small frame, Tonya had concerns about choosing an implant that would be too big, but she also didn’t want to look back after surgery and regret not going larger.

Breast Augmentation New Jersey Image“I must have seen Liz, the breast sizing consultant, four times for sizing prior to my surgery.  It kept me up at night.  I kept dreaming that I would look too big, pushing a stroller around.  Liz was great, so patient with me.  First I had two fittings alone then I brought my husband along and a last fitting to make my final choice,” said Tonya.

Tonya is thrilled with her implants and glad she took the time to choose her implants carefully.  She feels that they look just as natural as Dr. Parker said they would.  Just one month after surgery, Tonya and her husband headed to Costa Rica for a vacation.

“I felt great in my bathing suit, which you live in down there.  I tell my mom all the time that if I had known how great this would be, I would have done it sooner,” said Tonya.

Breast Augmentation — New Jersey patient Kristen wishes she had surgery 10 years ago

Kristen, 47, is a busy housewife with three teenage children.  For almost ten years Kristen had looked at before and after photos and wanted to have a breast augmentation. New Jersey resident Kristen is an avid exerciser who felt her barely an A cup breasts looked dreadful.

“I was almost concave, a negative “A” cup.  Most men have larger breasts than I did.  I wouldn’t wear tight fitting workout clothes because they made me look like a man,” said Kristen.

Kristen was tired of looking at her body and not feeling feminine so she seriously started considering surgery last spring.  She had gotten recommendations from friends and looked online.  Kristen had heard about Dr. Parker over the years and had even had a consultation with him several years ago.

breast augmentation New Jersey imageKristen also had a consultation with one other plastic surgeon, but she chose Dr. Parker because he was very calm, knowledgeable and she knew he was very experienced with breast augmentation. New Jersey based Dr. Parker discussed with Kristen considering a nipple reduction and a lift on her one breast which was more droopy than the other during her consultation.

“I chose Dr. Parker because I just felt he was willing to go the extra mile to make my breasts look as good as possible.  That was important to me,” said Kristen.

Kristen is a slight Asian woman and looking natural was a primary goal for her surgery.  She didn’t want to look top heavy or too obvious.  In late September, Kristen had breast augmentation surgery with 300cc implants and is now a full “B” cup.

“I postponed having the surgery because I was afraid of pain.  The whole process was much easier than I thought it would be.  I followed Dr. Parker’s instructions to a “T”.  I was uncomfortable for a few days, but that’s about it” said Kristin.

breast aumengation New Jersey imageKristen is delighted with her new breasts.  She’s adjusted to them and feels like they’re natural looking and a part of her.  Kristen loves the way she fills out clothes now.  It’s given her newfound confidence and pride in her appearance.

Kristen credits the staff at The Parker Center with making the entire process so simple.  Their professionalism and experience helped Kristen feel secure about her surgery.

A natural looking result and a pain free recovery are the goals of The Parker Center.  Dr Parker and his dedicated staff look to ensure that every patient receives personalized care and attention along with the highest surgical standards.  Their Rapid Recovery Program helps to reduce patient downtime and minimizes discomfort.

“My only regret is that I didn’t do it ten years ago.  I love my new breasts.  Padding can only do so much.  This surgery can make you feel so much better about yourself.  Why wouldn’t you consider it?,” said Kristen.

Marissa’s Rapid Recovery with Breast Augmentation New Jersey

Marissa, a full-time college student, had thought many times about getting breast implants. Recently she decided to stop taking oral contraceptives which had given her breasts some fullness. Unhappy being back to her normal breast size, Marissa started to seriously think about having a breast augmentation. New Jersey based plastic surgeon, Dr. Parker, was able to grant her wish.

“I had actually thought that I would wait to get breast augmentation in New Jersey until after I had children but who knows when that will be and I really wanted implants. I thought I might as well just do it now. Why wait?” said Marissa.

Marissa had consulted with Dr. Parker and considered one other plastic surgeon. Marissa chose Dr. Parker because she was impressed with his staff and when she met him she felt confident that he was the right choice. Dr. Parker’s warmth and professionalism along with his willingness to listen and understand her wishes eradicated any doubts about her decision.

Marissa works part-time as a waitress and bartender while still in college. Waiting until after her 22nd birthday just after New Year’s, during her winter break, Marissa had silicone implants on January 4. Incredibly, Marissa was back at work on January 7, just three days after her surgery.

“I felt really good. I was hardly bruised at all. I was careful not to lift any heavy trays or anything. My co-workers knew I had surgery and really helped me out,” said Marissa.

Marissa took Dr. Parkers post-operative instructions very seriously and followed them to the letter. While every patients experience is unique and everyone handles recovery differently, Marissa is an outstanding example of the success of The Parker Center’s Rapid Recovery System.

Dr. Parker has developed a protocol known as the Rapid Recovery System to help his patients recover faster and more comfortably. More than just pain medication, this system allows patients to resume their active lifestyles with a minimum amount of downtime.

Other aspects of the Rapid Recovery System include the use of limited incisions which speed healing. Short –acting anesthetic agents and anti-nausea medications reduce recovery time from anesthesia. A tailored regimen of medications to raise the patient’s pain threshold minimize post-op pain along with a combination of drugs designed to reduce swelling and bruising. Topically applied skin creams in addition to a series of special massages called manual lymphatic drainage are given to accelerate the healing process and recovery time.

Marissa is thrilled with her new breasts and is enjoying a new found sense of confidence and pride. Even though it’s only been a week, she feels so much better about her appearance. She’s looking forward to graduation and feels more confident about starting her career.

“When I saw Dr. Parker at my follow-up visit, I was gushing. I’m just so happy with how I look. I just thanked him up and down,” said Marissa.

Cosmetic Surgery New Jersey — Wrinkle Treatment Patient Laurel Now Fits in With Other Moms

Laurel is a 36-year old working mom of three children who always felt out of place with the moms of her kids friends. Even though most of the moms were the same age, Laurel always felt she looked much older.

“I had very deep smile lines on both sides of my mouth. My mom and dad both have deep grooves in their faces, so I know where I got them. But they always made me look and feel so much older,” stated Laurel.

Fat transfer injections is a procedure that uses your own fat cells to plump up areas of the face that are sunken or emaciated or to increase volume where desired. The first step involves gentle liposuction of a fatty area such as the abdomen, hips or thighs. Then the fat cells are isolated and cleansed. The third and final step involved injecting those harvested fat cells into the targeted facial areas.

“The effect has been beautiful, very natural looking. I told people I had dental surgery to explain the first few days of swelling. Since then, I’ve noticed that I look a lot more refreshed. I feel like I look much more in line with women my own age now,” said Laurel

Laurel chose this method to rid her face of the deep smile lines because she liked the idea of the long lasting effects of cosmetic surgery.  New Jersey Dr. Parker ensured her she wouldn’t have to come back every few months to have injections done over and over again. Busy with her career and growing family, fat transfer injections fit right into her lifestyle. An added benefit to Laurel was that by using her own fat cells, she wouldn’t encounter any adverse reactions to the injections (like allergies or a chemical sensitivity),

Laurel chose Dr. Parker because not only does she know him personally, but she’s seen his work and she knows that he’s an expert in his field. Laurel found Dr. Parker to be very conservative in his approach. He calmly explained how the procedure would go and what would happen at each stage.

“I had no anxiety. I felt prepared and it went exactly how he said it would. I went in by myself and left by myself after an hour and fifteen minutes. Just like getting my hair done,” explained Laurel.

If you’re someone who is considering a facial rejuvenation procedure but really doesn’t think you’re ready for a full face lift or other any other form of cosmetic surgery,  New Jersey facial fat injections may be for you. This injection method of facial fat sculpting can restore youthful contours to your cheeks, chin, and under-eye area, and add volume to your lips.

I always felt very comfortable considering the personal aspect of the type of surgery that I was having done. What I didn’t realize was how this surgery has improved my self esteem-even at my age!!! Not just Botox…

There are several injectables on the market today that smooth lines and wrinkles of the face. Which one is right for you? They’re all made of different ingredients and work in different ways. Here’s the 411 on the three most popular injectables, Botox, Restalyne and Juvaderm.

Botox is an injectable, but it’s not a facial filler. It works by freezing the muscle that can cause the wrinkle. It’s derived from the botulinum toxin which is a neurotoxin. Even though it is a toxin, Botox is safe to use by a board certified and experienced plastic surgeon. Its best use is for dynamic wrinkles (the ones formed by the muscle movement of facial expressions). The results will typically last between 4 and 6 months.

Restalyne is hyaluronic acid gel filler. It is used to smooth out fine to moderate lines and wrinkles around the mouth and eyes. It is also used as a lip plumper. The acid filler is not an animal product and it is safe as an injectable. The best use of Restalyne is for static wrinkles (the wrinkles that are always visible). Restalyne results will typically last 6 months for lip plumping and 9 months for facial smoothing.

Juvederm is also a hyaluronic acid filler with the consistency of a gel. It is used to treat moderate to severe lines and wrinkles by adding more volume under the skin. It is available in 3 different densities depending on the severity of the wrinkles. Usually results last 9 month.

Only a plastic surgeon can determine which injectable is right for you. It may be that you have both static and dynamic wrinkles and could benefit from more than one type. Be safe and allow an experience board certified plastic surgeon to safely administer your anti-aging injection.

“I love you just the way you are…” Billy Joel

But daughter Alexa and ex-wife Christie Brinkley reported aren’t accepting the Piano Man’s beautiful words. It’s been reported that Alexa Joel recently had rhinoplasty and her mom former supermodel Christy Brinkley has had a facelift.

Last season on “The Real Housewives of Orange County”, mom Lynn got a facelift, brow lift and neck lift while her daughter Racquel got her nose reshaped.

Duos undergoing plastic surgery together are part of a new trend. Recently the American Academy of Facial, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery reported a 34% increase in the number of people getting surgery with a partner. Be it friends, couples, sisters or mothers & daughters.

Why is this trend seen as disturbing? Most doctors advocate having a support system at home for surgery patients. Having sympathetic and empathetic assistance from loved ones helps people through the healing process.

WHEN ONCE IS NOT ENOUGH

Plastic Surgery addiction is once again in the spotlight with 23-year old celebrity Heidi Montag’s 10 surgeries. She’s had it all, from a brow lift to a buttock augmentation, nose job and ear pinning to the more obvious DDD’s.

Many surgeons and psychologists agree that this type of compulsive surgery can be a result of body dyspmorphic disorder(BDD). This disorder is characterized by an obsession with improving even the smallest flaws about the body or face. When you look in the mirror and the only thing you see are flaws, this can be a sign of BDD. BDD is not limited to plastic surgery addiction, it is often seen in people with anorexia and bulimia.

Plastic surgery can be a great tool for those who have a body issue, whether from birth or recent injury. Overuse and increased risks associated with multiple surgeries can lead to undesirable results and possible health problems down the road. Most surgeons are careful and select patients who are healthy and have realitistic expectations.

According to recent reports, Hollywood, which has often been accused of creating the “plastic” female icon, is now looking for a more natural look in their casting. Where will poor Heidi work?

DOES A MINI-FACELIFT = MINI RESULTS?

For those wanting a new look without the major surgery, consider a mini-face lift. It’s also known as a “weekend facelift” because of how quickly it can be performed and the minimal (2-day) recovery time.

The lift focuses on specific areas of the face such as the neck or the folds around the nose. A mini-lift uses smaller incisions; the surgeon can lift, remove and reposition facial tissue for optimal results. These lifts usually focus on the lower half of the face and cannot be used to achieve results on the forehead or brow.

The best candidate for this type of surgery is usually someone in their 30’s or 40’s who is just beginning to experience signs of aging such as some facial or neck sagging and drooping. It can also used as a touch-up for full facelifts.

Smaller incisions mean less healing time and complications. The surgery is shorter and requires less anesthesia and equipment. The results are more subtle and than a full facelift and will not last as long, typically 2-5 years.

So if you’re looking for a subtle improvement to the lower face and neck area with less expense and downtime, a mini-face lift may be perfect for you.

YOU’VE LOST THE WEIGHT — NOW WHAT?

You’ve lost the weight—now what?

Feeling like a wrinkly sac after achieving phenomenal weight loss can be demoralizing for anyone. Many people can find themselves 100, 150 or even 200 lbs slimmer after bariatric surgery or highly restrictive diets. But along with that tremendous weight loss comes excess skin.

Many opt for a “body lift”, one of the fastest growing areas of cosmetic surgery. A body lift or body contouring involves removing the excess skin remaining after weight loss. It’s more about removing excess skin than excess fat.

A body lift can encompass several types of surgery. A lower body lift would cover abdomen, buttocks and outer thighs. An upper body lift would handle excess skin on the breast, lateral chest and back. A lift on the extremities takes care of the arms and inner thighs.

This is a long and invasive surgery. It may be done in several surgeries to minimize the length of time you spend under anesthesia. It can be quite expensive depending on the amount of surgery required. Doctors warn that significant scarring is inevitable with this type of surgery. However, people are often so happy with the change in their quality of life that they deal quite well with the scarring.

FDA slams Lipodissolve / MesoTherapy clinics

FDA slams Lipodissolve / MesoTherapy clinics

In a “we knew it was coming” moment, the FDA has issued letters and a public warning about the ineffectiveness and danger of the controversial “fat melter” known as Injection Lipolosys (lipozap, lipotherapy, mesotherapy, lipodissolve).

Lipodissolve is based on a drug originally used to treat fat embolisms in blood. The premise is that it breaks down the fat which is then reabsorbed by the body.

The FDA is questioning the efficacy and actively seeking submissions of side effects.
